LS9 filter came stock in my 13 GS
Found something interesting tonight. I was changing out the air intake to a Z06/LS7 unit that I picked up, and in looking at the air filters my GS aleady had the ZR1/LS9 air filter in it.
Here's the old LS3/LS7 filter that was in the Z06 intake:
And here's the LS9 filter that was in my GS:
I checked the part numbers on them to confirm what they were. Not sure if GM just ran out of standard LS3 filters towards the end of the run, or if they were maybe specifically doing LS9 filters in hand-built LS3s.

I checked into replacing the engine air filter on my 2013 GS. The dealership said the GM part #15776148 price was $207. Their cost was $155.97. Something about it's all one part he said.
The other part number he gave was# 25940997 for 2006 to 2011 C6 GS and the price was $207.
Am I miss something here?
Where can you order just the filter and what should it cost?
I checked the owner's manual and it says to replace the engine air filter at 72k on the 2013 GS and the ZR1 at 36k.

The LS9 part number is 25940997. The filter and mounting bracket (black piece that screws in to hold filter in place) are one piece. On a standard LS3/LS7 filter, the filter and bracket are two separate pieces.

Post#19 saids one of the reasons GM went to a ZR1 air filter starting in 2012 for the LS3 was to offset the power loss of going to 4 converters in the exhaust system starting that year.

LS3 Wheel dyno, Engine dyno & Drivetrain losses.
It's a fact that a "manual trans" usually consumes less hp than an automatic. So a "stick" should make more hp on a "wheel dyno" all things being equal.
However from the magazine article "I" found very believable the LS3 "wet sump" engine made more hp on an "engine dyno".
Also due to lack of driver ability/skill "&" weather you like it or not the "A6" usually kicks the "M6" a$$ in the traffic light or 1/4 mile wars.

Good point/question. After agreeing with half of what "truth.b" said but for a different reason (A6 drivetrain losses) I felt that the next shoe that may drop might be that the "M6" is faster; So I launched a preemptive "Corvette Forum historical" strike.
PS: When "I" went from a "stick" to an automatic in my GM street/strip bracket warrior years ago I actually loss 2 tenths of a second in the 1/4 mile running an automatic!
