Well that didn't take long (busted windshield)
Got the car home today and as I was pulling into the driveway noticed there is now a crack in the windshield. It is 8-10 inches now and originated on a rock chip in the black near the rearview mirror.
I have no idea when it happened, sometime today I guess as I did not see it yesterday...
This sucks, brand new car and my first windshield didn't even make it two days.
What will be the best method to go about getting it replaced? Insurance is supposed to cover this 100%, by law in SC from what I understand, but getting OEM quality work is my top priority.
Thanks,

Stuff happens! I'm on my third windshield ; keep away from the rear of 18 wheelers that throw rocks; and yes the HUD windshield is different than non HUD. Safelite shops are used by most insurance companies. Call yours.

No HUD, but of course the rearview mirror and onstar/Xm module thing are attached to the inside of the glass... is that really something that a guy coming to your house in a 1972 rusted out pickup can install correctly?

Since it is new you should be able to get an OEM windshield. When you go to Safelite or whomever insist on an OEM replacement.

Lots of good info in the linked thread (and further linked threads from there) looks like everyone seems to be happy with Safelite so that is encouraging.
It is kind of sad state of affairs now; I did get caught in the rain today as well, so the car has 700 miles on it and is dirty as hell with a cracked windshield... hopefully within a week it will look like it did on Sunday morning again!
I will check with my dealer to see what they recommend (can't take it back there) and if it is likely to be a warranty item, take it to local dealer?

Safelight is who I used to replace the windshield (Onstar & HUD equipped) on my '09 Z. They did a great job.

Just got a new windshield about 2 weeks ago. Allstate refused to pay for OEM. What sort of pissed me off was Allstate windshield repair sends you right to Safelite. I have been warned against using Safelite. I got an independent glass shop that has done 5 windshields for me. I got a quality windshield and the installer, a real professional, did it in my garage.

Run a ballpoint pin down the crack and you'll find the crater were it started. If it wasn't 'hit' there will be no crater. Dealers hate to order windshields/big glass for obvious reasons. Breakage in shipping and handling. BUT on a brand new car on their lot they sure will. They usually won't do the install.

i have always had awesome luck with safelite. stock audi glass sucks i replaced my S4 glass 4-5 times by the audi dealership. one rock chip and that piece of crap would be done. safelite the one without audi rings (yes audi even puts their logo etched in the glass) the safelite windshield would take a beating. The geometry with the audi just promoted rocks hitting it. Safelite employees were always well dressed, respectful, and professional at least in my area.
