160 stats??
are 160 temp stats worth installing?? I have a ls2 (07) and was wondering if and how much the cooler temps would help. any info is helpful. just purchased a C6 vert.

Without a tune it will drop the temps while you are cruzing. Once you hit the red lights the temps will go back to what you are use to seeing. With a tune the fans will be set to come on at an earlier temp, and the temp will remain constant, probably about 180 to 190.
I mentioned a tune.....I assume you can set your fans to come on sooner without actually doing the tune.

put one in
modify your tune
call it a day
or sit and wait for another one of these long legthy debates/pissing matches/what eva ya wanna call it
will it help??? all depends, there are just to many variables/what if's/etc
to me... it certainly helps get rid of some heat, and can even help with interior temps
at least we noticed a difference in my wifes 05
i also never had problems with 160 stats in frigid cold temps either

My C5Z ran great with one, but it was tuned also. Very cool (no pun) to see the thermostat nice and low on the dash. I have no experience with one in an LS3 however.

Exactly
I have a friend who works at a southern cal dealership and he says they are designed to run like that-- what most of us would consider Hot

There's one reason right there. Reason number two is that these cars are designed to run hot. Have you ever tracked your Z with coolant temps down in the 150-160* range with that 160* thermostat? The car will run like a dog.

Do a search for posts by forum member Evil-Twin.
He provides very useful information pertaining to 160 stats. He is a retired GM engineer who worked on the C5.
The sweet spot for LS engines, according to E-T, is 190/200 coolant and 200/210 oil.

Here we go with being an engineer.....I know a few people who were for GM. One of them designed part of the dash in the 3rd gen F-body and the other designed carbs in the 60s/70s. They dont know everything about every single part.
