Default Hoods

With all the different style hoods that are available for the C6 that really look nice, is there a reason why Chevrolet does not design their hoods with these scoops? The front scoop on the Z06 is not functional and even the monster ZR1 design includes only a transparent area in the hood.

I think these different aftermarket hoods look neat but do they cause a functional issue or other issues that Chevrolet does not want to deal with or is this just the preference of the Corvette designers?

Since the C6 has a airbox that gets air from the lower front of the car, I don't think any hood scoops are needed. Unless you are just after some cosmetic scoops like a Trans Am.

Designers may have been thinking about reducing exposure tio the elements. I have been amazed how relatively clean the engine compartment remains. And, yes, I do drive my car - even in the rain!

That is what I am wondering. I really like the looks of some of these aftermarket hoods but at the same time do not want to introduce a problem. Rain for one example can be a problem but I was thinking it could even be other issues such as example wind noise.

Maybe someone will comment after converting to a different hood on a C6.

I have no problem with wind noise or rain water with my hood and I love the slightly more aggressive look it gives my car.

Thanks! I got it from SIC Motorsports. It's their 'Violator' hood. Fit and quality was great.

That is what I am talking about - more aggressive. Yours looks great because it is not over the top like some of them I have seen. I was wondering what issues can you possible have with color match, especially crystal red.

Good morning where did you get your front splitter from?

That front bumper had the splitter built into it. It was made by SIC Motorsports but is no longer being made as far as I know.

AFAIK, "scoops" have never been a Corvette thing and really don't belong, if we're talking about Ram Air type stuff. I'd prefer that they stay on the muscle cars and away from Corvettes.
However, that hood with the bulge above looks great! And I like my Callaway hood too.

Default Hoods

The only true benefits to the scoops from what I have read would be high speed driving, the hood scope releases some of the air pressure off the nose letting the nose stay down rather than rise at high speeds.
Watch some of the mile long events and you can see the pronounced elevation change.
I also see about 14 degrees cooler oil temps with my vented hood.
Mine has been out in the rain twice since I put on the hood with next to nothing actually getting in the engine bay.
I am trying to come up with a plan for my long multi day trips slated for this summer.

Yes, we can call the traditional corvette hood a "bulge". As nice as the C-6 looks, I think GM somewhat missed the boat by not putting a larger (taller) "bulge" in the hood. Not by much though, maybe just another 1-2 inches. Part of the corvette look is not just from the outside, but also how it looks from the inside. Not sure how many have owned earlier vettes, but theres something about looking out and seeing that bulge in the hood that reeks Corvette.
