Default Roof creaking

How do I silence my transparent roof? Yesterday it was creaking every now and then in the heat while driving.

Shrink tubing on the male pins, shrink it on then cut off the excess in front of the ball but make sure the ball is covered. This worked for me and others.

Condition the rubber seals. I use Di-electric grease (silicon grease). You can buy the big tube at any of the auto parts stores. A little messy the first few washes, but your seals won't dry out.

Default Lube?

What sort of lube is suggested?

It's really a silicon grease - not silicon spray lubricant. Typically used for lubing spark plug boots when performing a spark plug change. This is what GM recommends as well. You'll find it in the gasket sealer section of your auto parts store. Either Tune-up grease or Dielectric grease - same thing.

Richard, can you please provide info on the type of shrink tubing you used, i.e. diameter, thickness, etc.? Also, after sliding the tubing onto the pins did you heat it to make it "form fit" the pins? Thx.

GUARANTEED TO WORK.

Go to Home Depot/Lowes and get some 3/16" or 5/16" e-clips. Put them on the little roller shafts that rotate. 1 per roller. NO MORE NOISE!

WD-40 and a paper napkin. Cheap, quick and inexpensive.

GM recommends Super Lube in a TSB about creaking removable tops.

WD40 is petroleum based. It will destroy rubber, especially foam weather-stripping.

The creaking isn't from the rubber. Its from the metal to metal contact of the pins and the latches, hence why I said use a paper towel.

GM has a long bulletin about how to fix the creaking roof, use the Search feature to find and print it out.

Go through it, step by step. Hopefully, most of them will not apply to you and you can skip them after checking. Then if you have the old style front latches, you can do the E-clip fix by mrtoner and save a bunch of money.

Otherwise, don't waste your time on scattershot fixes.
Get the bulletin, do the bulletin.

Our car had six problems that all had to be fixed, now the roof is quiet. The dealer worked through it and finally found/fixed them all.
