Corvette to BMW M3
I need a car with a back seat, thinking of selling my C6 and buying a used BMW m3. Anyone here own a BMW M3 or 3-series that can give a comparison to the corvette? I read some posts on M3post.com and some do not use their M3's as a daily driver, not a good sign. Thanks.

Think about a used M5 or M6 over a M3.
Prices ahve come down a lot. I used to have a 645, not Vette power but was a nice ride. The M5 and M6 have some good power. Go to the local beemer dealer and test drive them. I always had great service from BMW on test drives etc.....

Actually, I think this is THE BMW forum - far more traffic. This is just the current "3" series link. You can go to the forum home and I think there is a "M" section as well. I've been lurking on here because I may be interested in a 335 for my daily driver in about six months.

I had a 335i. It had nothing but problems. I will say that the m3 is a fantastic car. The only downside is the aweful gas mileage. An m3 is a very different car than a vette. I've got to tell ya, the m3 is an awesome machine. You will love it. I seriously considered trading my 335 for one. Ultimately, I couldn't stomach the crappy gas mileage an got a Cayman S instead. If you need backseats and don't care about gas mileage, nothing beats an m3.

The newer E90x series have some engine issues. if your thinking about a convertible look at my site first www.bimmerissues.com
The E46 M3 is a great car and the prices on them have really dropped.

the m3 is pretty small, dont know how big a guy you are. The backseat and width of the interior is really tight if you are an average size fella. the m5 is small as well. The 7 series is comparable to or even a touch bigger then a standard luxury car. The m3 is fast as heck tho and alot of fun to drive. regards, paul

I went from a 2003 M3 to a 2008 corvette. I used the M3 as a weekend car, as I do the vette, and I needed the back seat for the kids. The kids grew up and now drive, so with the significant changes in 08, I pulled the trigger and purchased a 2008 coupe, 6 sp. manual, 2LT, Z51,NPP and never looked back.
The E46 M3 is a great car. Handling, steering, braking are all what you would expect out of a sports car. The engine loves to rev up to its 8K redline and runs 13.3 in 1/4 mile with 0-60 in 4.8 seconds on a manual 6sp.
From 2001 to 2003 , all M3's had a service bulletin for the replacement of crankshaft main bearings. Apparently, the supplier for the bearings did not meet BMW's specifications and some engines were seizing. BMW replaced the bearings and extended the engine warranty for an additional 2 years (6 total) latest to be expiring in 2009.
I sold the M3 because I wanted more power and no longer needed the back seats. Its a great car, expensive to repair, so do you research. Make sure the bearing replacement was done on the earlier models.

M3 is nice..
But get a warranty and don't modify. My friend has one and a single header was $2500- Love the way Germans finish a car. I leased my wife a 04 330 convert. Electrical gremlims.... They have the best service but I didn't have to pay - under warranty.

Mercedes E63 or C63 way over the M3. I have the E63 with 507HP and it is truly a dream car. Well worth every penny. Plus I can take the family along. If you can afford the E I would go with it for all the extra room.
