z06 or 08 c6
Im wanting to get a c 6 .I already have a c5 got it to see if i would like it i love it.i"m just not decided on 06 z06 or 08 c6. the car wont be a dayly drive.(sorry i can"t spell).i"m not sure if the 70 horse power is worth the fixed roof ,top off rules.I just don"t want to get the c6 and than want the z06.The price is only going to be 6-7 thousand more its not going to make or break the deal.08 more warranty, better around town driver?don"t want to make a mistake again.Bought the c5 right before the price drop.scared about the c7 killing the value of the car again.thanks for your time and thanks for any responses.

Only you know if you would rather have a C6 or C6 Z06. If you like to track the car or like the wide body look of the Z06 then I would say buy it. If that doesn't matter then buy the base C6. I think either way you will be happy. It is a big upgrade over the C5. I wouldn't worry about the C7 undercutting the price anytime soon. It will be a long time before we see it. GM is in financial trouble right now, and have much more important things to worry about than the next generation corvette.

Bodystyle is a big component of your decision really. If you prefer having a targa top then I'd recommend the base coupe since you can add some power (or even the widebody) if you wanted to. The 2006 Z06 has depreciated further though, and will arguably hold its value better overall, so from a financial perspective you might be able to hold onto more money by purchasing a used 2006...at least for the next few years.

If '09 is this year already, the C7 won't be around until about 4 model years from now. It's a hard decision to recommend either an '06 Z or an '08 C6.
Let's put it this way: if you spend for the Z, if you decide after a year or so that it's not for you, you can sell it and still get an '08 without much out of pocket. On the other hand, if you buy the '08 it might hold its value since it's newer, or maybe not because of the market in cars, used and new, dropping so much.
It's kind of a crapshoot if you ask me. Under those circumstances and since you have had a C5, I'd say try out the Z.

In State Buyers pay a $399 documentation fee, sales tax based on where you live, and licensing fee.
Out Of State Buyers pay a $399 documentation fee. If you would like to fly in and drive the car home, you will have to pay 8.25% California sales tax. We can also have the car shipped to our dealership in Reno, NV for about $400 and you can fly in there and pick it up without paying the 8.25% California sales tax, but you will have to pay the sales tax in your state. You can also have the car shipped from our dealership to your state and you won't have to pay the 8.25% California sales tax. You will be responsible for registering the car in your own state. Also there will be a 10 day hold on all checks including personal and cashier's checks. We will send you the MSO (title) once the 10 day hold has passed and it will be overnighted to you. If you are financing the car with us, we will send you the MSO (title) once we have been funded from the bank which is usually about 5 days.

I think with prices the way they are right now, many people who could not have bough a Z06 a few months ago can now justify the cost at the reduced prices ( not saying this is the case with you )...
This debate has brought many heated discussions. I think it really boils down to this.... How much is 70 more hp, a 100lb less weight, a little better grip, a little rougher ride, a dry sump, a non removable top, a fake hood scoop, a little wider fender and tires and a little more wow factor really worth to you...????
Fair or unfair, I think that is the $15-20K question.....

And here is another.
The above things you point to, at least sum up some, if not completley all, of it up in terms of differences.
To the original poster, I would ask:
How much is at least 7 tenths in the quarter mile, stock for stock, drivers equal worth to you?
How much is this type of a potential performance differential worth to you?
How much is this type of performance capability worth to you?
How important is it for you to own a car which tops the performance of many of the quickest cars in the world, offerings from Ferrari, lamborghini, Porsche, etc.?
How important is it to you to own a 427 cu in Corvette with a hand built engine in it? http://corvettemuseum.com/specs/2006/LS7.shtml
How important is it to you to own a Z06?
http://corvettemuseum.com/specs/2006/Z06History.shtml
How important is it for you to own a factory built Corvette which is 1 of about 6-8,000 of it's year model, the Z06 as opposed to a Corvette which is 1 of about 30,000 of it's year model, a coupe/vert?
http://corvetteactioncenter.com/spec.../2007prod.html
If none of the above are important to you, then don't buy a Z06. But if any of it is, then do.

There's more to the Z06 than just the few things said above. The frame is not just lighter, it's stronger too. It really is a track / race car; more so than the base or Z51 package. It's more of a car to get you in trouble too!

It depends on why you want a Z06. If you want the baddest 'Vette on the block, the Z06 no longer fills the bill--the ZR1 does. Then the next question is, is 70 HP worth $20K. As a former C6 Z51 owner and present '08 Z06 owner, I don't see $20K advantage in the Z06 as a daily driver. Additionally, if you lean toward a 'vert or A6, a Z51 looks even better.

I also went from a C6 Z51 to a Z06 (06 not an 08)
I personally will say, I LOVE The way the Z06 handles, drives etc...
however, I'll say for what I use it for, Id rather have my Z51 back, the Z06 is just a beast, rides harsher.. etc.. . There just isnt a replacement for that 427 thats stuffed under the hood.....
with that said, I LOVE both to be honest, but Id personally rather have the Z in my stable.

I have seen (2) 08 jsb Z06s go thru the Orlando Manhiem auction in the last month and sold for 55000, and they weren't buy backs, and had less than 3000 miles. The big dealers cant sell them and have to dump them.

While the aluminum hydroformed frame rails are certainly lighter than the steel counterparts in the C6, you have to trade off a fixed roof in the Z06 in order to insure chassis rigidity for those lighter aluminum frame rails which for alot of owners that desire a removable targa roof; it's a deal breaker.
And with regard to "race cars"; the C6R Corvettes built by Pratt & Miller for the C6R race program utilize the steel framed C6 chassis rather than the lighter hydroformed aluminum frame rails found in the Z06.

It is of course a better track car...
The hood scoop is not fake, It is real, you can see it right there on the front of the cars hood , The question is, is it functional.........No
