The fob numbers only denote the order in which they were originally programmed to the car, so any fob can be a number 1 or 2 etc. And I happen to have 2 of them for sale here for half the dealer price:

If you lock the door with the LOCK button on the door, and if the door is closed, the light on top of the door will come on for a few seconds, then go out. Same thing if you're outside the car with the door closed and you press the lock button on the fob. Same thing if you have the car programmed to lock automatically after you get out and shut the door.
There's an automatic door lock that is not programmable. When you move the shift lever out of PARK (automatic tranny) or when the vehicle speed exceeds 8 mph (manual tranny), both doors will lock and there will be no visible evidence of it happening.
The only way you can program a #1 fob for the car is to reprogram both fobs with the long programming procedure in the owner's manual. Otherwise, you can get the Chevy dealer to do it. Then, either fob will start the car and both fobs will work the memory features of the car if your car has the option that contains the memory features. So yes, you can buy another fob & program it as #1.

Welcome to the C6 page Tony!
I see you are from BR. I met a bunch of thugs from the BRCC at the Corvette Forum Cruise In back in May, great bunch. (and they actually drive their Corvettes!)
Anyway welcome to the C6 forum.
