Got my first "Service Active Handling" warning
Finally was able to get the car out yesterday, after a long and bitter winter. All was well and the car ran great. Then, coming home after about 35 minutes of driving, the little yellow icon lights up and I get a "Service Active Handling System" message scrolling across the DIC. Everything felt fine, and seemed to be functioning normally.
I remember others on the board mentioning this, so I tried what was previously suggested. I pulled over, shut the car off, then restarted it. The icon and message disappeared. I drove home, shut the car off again, restarted it, and all was still normal. If it doesn't happen again I'll just forget about it. If it does happen again, another trip to the dealer will be in order. I feel really good about taking that extended warranty right now.

I had that happen several times with my 2005. Took it to the dealer the first two times and they said there was nothing wrong so the next few times it did it, I just ignored it.

Exact same thing happened to me this past Thursday. Since it was the 1st time I shut the car off and restarted without issue. Then on Saturday it happened again. Now I drive with the active handling disabled until I take it in Thursday. Others were saying its a sensor in the steering wheel with 1 of 3 issues..... pinched, pulled, (from retracting steering wheel) or just plain bad. Take it in because some have reported the car freaking out and locking up as the sensor was misreading the cars real direction.

Stan, try this, find a parking lot and slowly roll forward at idle and turn the wheel all the way to one side and then all the way back to the other side and see if you get the message.
I experienced this problem in my 05 and the above test would set the traction light off every time i did it. Mine always happened with the wheel turned to the right. It ended up being a loose harness by the steering column. I used the zip tie method that others had used. It was in a thread somewhere.

Had the prob on '05. Dealer traced it to the wiring harness that runs up the stering column, which among other things, provides input to the steering wheel position for active handling. It seems the OEM cable gets stressed when the column is moved, particularly all the way out. Dealer replaced cable with a longer one and the problem did not recur.

My 2006 had the factory-installed fix (reroute cable and resecure connector), but it wan't enough. The dealer's tech rerouted and secured it differently, no problems now for 20k miles.

You should take it to the dealer to have the system thoroughly checked and ALL AH TSBs implemented. No ifs, or buts. If you do not do this, drive at you peril, but... do not complain if something happens.

How do you access that harness? Is there a panel to remove?

Taking it in tomorrow, my service advisor said it was most likely a stressed cable just as mentioned on this forum. Ill get a free rental for a day or two, no biggie. Dont wait till your car locks up as other have stated.
