Default Tach Drops to Zero??

I've noticed when i'm driving down the highway occasionally i'll be rolling along at the usual 2k rpm or whatever it's at then all of a sudden it drops to 0 for five or six seconds. Any Thoughts???

Nope...just that one. It does it relatively infrequently but I'd like to find the cause before it gets worse.

The problem seems to be getting worse. Last night on a 40 minute drive it did it probably 10-15 times....

I had a similar situation after removing the cluster to add gauge bezels. Had to pull it out again and reseat the main connector. I found that when I put it together after adding the bezels I had twisted the cable around a bit. Untwisting it before reinstalling so far has corrected the issue. YMMV.

That would be the first place to look. Make SURE that all the IPC boards and connections are clean, tight and properly seated in their connectors:

Heres a couple post that will help you with the IPC:

- C5 Gage Cluster disassembly - http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-t...post1570380674

Disassemble the door wiring harness connectors and make sure that the female pins in the power plug are not spread and bent. Loose connections there can cause the serial digital data buss to have all sorts of wieird issues.

Cleaned all grounds...none of them looked bad at all....still have the problem. I'm starting to think my PCM might be going bad. I need to replace my DIC buttons (Stopped working) to see if it's tripping any codes I guess.

I've had the same issue as you. Tach started dropping to zero on occasion and is now almost always at zero. I was told by corvettes of houston that it may be due to the fact that the original battery leaked acid down onto the harness. Not sure if thats the same in your case? And I honestly don't know if that's the problem in my case or not (although I know it would cause all kinds of havoc) I still need to clean grounds and double check pins etc.
