how tough are our drivetrains?.... bias ply tires
I've got a 04 bolt on Z06. Stock 52k mile clutch no braces, all stock. Would launching at 5k on a bias ply be automatic death or should everything hold together. We're going to the track Thursday and I want to know what I should and shouldn't do. Thanks

Hard to say. Depends on how hard it hooks, if there is wheel hop, or any weak parts. I have broken two diffs in my Z06 at the track. DTE had built both and I had the brace on as well. Both broke in two different ways. Racing and stress will find the weak point.

stock cars work with stock hp and stock ish tires
more power or more tire = replacing parts. the stock clutch will slip with a really sticky slick and a high rpm launch
diff case is another place that fails frequently. tube couplers also can get beat.
if you go racing expect to spend money. if you can live with the expense racing is pretty fun

I would not launch that high with a big sticky bias ply tire, your really asking for trouble. I added a DTE brace to mine before I ran it on drag radials, all else stock except shifter and zip tie intake mod. You're clutch probably isnt going to grab real hard, mine didnt. Ran a best of 12.3 @115, 1.9 60' launching aroud 3k. I need a new clutch.

Your 52k mile clutch May or may not handle it well. Fresh fluid will help. 5k rev launch on a bias ply slick is dancing with the devil. If it's slipped smooth enough it can live. Make a small error during the launch and diff is most likely a boat anchor. I've done a handful of 1.7x 60's only stock diff with success. Prolly 4k launch with very smooth steady clutch release. No drive line shock.

I'm used to my 9" Ford under my Trans Am leaving at 6500 cutting 1.51s. I wasn't to sure what the IRS would handle. I'll stick to a quick slip and keep the rpms low. All the fluids are new and everything seems healthy. I cut 1.9s on drag radials. They don't really prep the track to much where I race.

That will give you an idea how tough our drive trains are. He did have a hard hitting clutch though but not that much hp over stock.

I havent broken a diff yet, but ive gone through 2 trans, currently rebuilding torque tube from failed bearings/coupler, fried a clutch....Headers/ nitrous car, consistent 1.6 60's. runs high 10s at high 120s. So just be prepared.

Drivetrain rebuild thread coming soon for this guy....
BOOM!
You "dump" the clutch on a C5 you'll break an axle so fast your head will spin... Let's be sensible here... Its a road race car, not a drag car with a 9" ford...
I've broke 3 diffs and 2 stick trannies, all at the drag strip... And that was using "finesse"...
