Default LED bulb for A4 shifter

I know how to get all the way down to the existing 194 bulb. What I need to know is what type/size led bulb should be used to replace it. I have some led replacement bulbs for the 194 bulbs that are used in other places (like the footwells) but they look like they are too tall to fit properly in the shifter. Also does anyone have a good method for removing the 194 bulb without breaking it to pieces? It seems like you would have to use something like needle nosed pliers to get it out.

This is what I used. Very bright. Be aware that these are poll sensitive. If you put it in and it doesn't light up, pull it and rotate it.

Put a piece of tape on the bulb so you can get a grip on it. I used a pair of needle nose pliers and it came out. Others have reported success using just their fingers. Try this link for more info.

Read through the first file, especially the bottom of page 3 into page 4. I also included a second file just for information purposes.

I used a standard 194 LED (same form factor as the incandescent bulb) I DID have to file the clear plastic piece a bit to make it fit. 1000% improvement--the PRND321 is now cool instead of hot like the core of the sun. Be careful, a lot of the OEM parts are brittle due to the heat over the years...

Here is a better option than just changing the 194 bulb. I have done 3 of these and they look great.

It is from the big LED Mod Thread. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-g...od-thread.html

I went in from the top and replaced the bulb with a 3-led flexible strip. I didn't even bother to use the adhesive backing. 5 minutes and 99 cents invested. Here's the result.....

That looks great...

Does it just prise off?

Yes, gently pry the PRND cover with a small flat tip screw driver. You can view photos on the link in post #3 above. (scroll down to post #92)
