Default Please help!!!

Ok so like a couple of weeks ago I noticed my vette coming over the information center LOW VOLTAGE & CHARGING SYSTEM FAULT so I changed the battery with a NEW GM battery. After installing the battery it fired right up took it around town a couple times no big deal. Got it back home parked it for two dayz and when I went to start it again the gauges started going crazy and running ruff. So I shut it off and tried to start it again all it does now is turns over no fire. Had a buddy hooked his scanner to it witch didn't come up with anything, so he told me to check to c if I had fuel pressure on the rail. Took the cap off pressed the center n and nothing no fuel came out. So after I got home from work that same day I went and a cycled the key like 5 or 6 time and then for some reason it fired and ran . So I let it run for 10-15 mins shut it off and now it doing the same thing all over again . If u have any advice or have heard/had this prob please help I'm getting discouraged. Thanks

Sounds like you have an issue with the Vehicle Anti-Theft System or VATS.

I was getting the CHARGING SYSTEM FAULT message, which I did the same as you I put in a new battery fixed my issue for a few days...then I noticed my volts were dropping on a brand new battery..so I put a tender on it over night drove it the next day..same thing volts were dropping...so did some tests I found on the forum to check the alt..and mine was a bad alt going out...I bought a new Acdelco alt...fixed my issue completely

Definitely the alternator, you need to check the voltage with the car running. What's happening is that your ECM and related modules aren't functioning right because the voltage is lower than it needs to be.

How many miles? See much rain in its life? There are grounds all over, some of those can get corroded (think there is location info in the C5 Tech forum). Also, clean the chip on your Key with rubbing alcohol. Look in the Z06 Faq top section in this forum and pull all your codes yourself. Report what you find...

Check this out. If your DIC is reading 14.4 volts, and your meter reads it, it may not be your issue. You're no fuel is also another sign... but this just happened to me, so be aware just in-case.

No the DIC isn't reading 14.4 I think it was around 13.8ish I took the alternator to O'Reilly's and it tested 14.4 there

13.8 is fine. If it's reading that the entire time you're running, I don't think you have a charging issue. Just my 2 cents.

I would check the main ground connectors. They are located on the front frame rail right behind the headlights. They have many wires going into the clip, and that clip is grounded to the frame rail. Disconnect the clip and clean the corrosion on the inside (for both of them).

It's the very first sticky thread under C5 tech, written by Bill Curlee: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-t...tion-long.html

These are always fun to chase down, that is a great thread for starting off point. Over the years I have replaced batteries, cleaned grounds, bypassed VATs with a resistor inline, deleted Column Lock/bypassed with the kit from LMC5. These cars are very sensitive to ground and voltage issues, best of luck

Thanks for the post, so far I've taken the two by each head headlight off and apart and both of them have no corrosion so I put some dielectric grease n each one so far. now to find the others

Here's a grounding location picture.

I'm going to go over mine when I get a chance.

Thanks to Bill Curlee

Well I changed the ignition switch n the z and now I can hear the fuel pump kick on and no more light flashing going crazy anymore ( thank God) but now when I turn my key to like start it it will not turn over. It's like I'm trying to start the car with out pushing the clutch n does anyone know what that could be?

Do you have to program the switch to your key? Maybe its not reading your key?

Hopefully someone else can chime in...
