Convertible: just how hot do black seats get?

Convertible: just how hot do black seats get?
I've been shopping for tan (oak?), shale, or white seats, with the idea that they are noticeably cooler on thy tush, especially if you park with the top down.
But in practice, does it really matter? Any opinions or personal experience out there?
And a request, for folks who do car shows: A top down "how long to fry an egg" experiment, black vs non-black. (Heck, red vs tan would also be interesting). ... OK, so the egg is dramatic, just measuring temp would be fine!
... Maybe this is just something that us folks in the south have to worry about!

We've had both and when you slide into an unprotected seat that's been in the Phoenix sun- it'll fry your thighs regardless of whether it's light beige or black . .
We've had black cars and light color cars out here and frankly, I can't tell any difference in interior temps.
My .02 - -it doesn't matter - get what you like.

I learned pretty quick that it was a bad idea to park my vert (with black leather seats) in the sun with the top down.
Window tint probably has a bigger effect on interior temps than the color of the car does, especially on a convertible IMO.
I had a black sports coupe, and it didn't get that hot inside because it had really dark tint on it (20% front, 5% rear)

You won't find white seats in a C5 unless they have been added from the aftermarket.
Not sure where you live, but if you live in a hot climate, the black seats can get pretty toasty on the rear end. Tinted windows and a windshield shade will help tremendously. Or you can get a slip on cover that will keep the seats cooler.

I've had light and dark color seats; believe me, if the top is down and the car is sitting in the sun you don't want to sit on any leather seat. Like the previous post says you can always get cloth covers

Thanks for the feedback, folks. Seems like black is by far the most common vette interior, which has been making it hard to window shop.
I'm including newer C4's and high miles C6 in my search. Not sure if white was available for all year C4's or if they cut off. I've seen replacement baseball glove / natural in a few postings which look great to me. Wonder why Chevy doesn't offer that look--too Ferrari maybe? Will keep an eye on options for the C7.. (Chevy, take note)
Thanks, good suggestion. I ran a forum search but couldn't manage to find any pics.. Also, from the website they have a seat heater option, curious if they work or just make the seats hard. Seems like the perfect solution for folks who drive to work with their pooch.
Did find this old thread though! We're not the only ones: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-g...s-get-hot.html
Edit: there are pics at the WetOkoloe.com site for various 'vettes.

I never park my car with the top down. If it's a safe place I just flip the top up and don't latch it. It's a moderately safe place - grocery store, golf course, etc - I only latch the driver's side. If it's an unsafe place, I drive the Acura and keep a dog in my belt.

I live in Florida and any car gets toasty in the heat. I originally had the OEM black interior, but since switched to the Vette Essentials black leather with gray piping. Still hot to the touch in the direct summer sun, however I honestly don't drive top down in the middle of the summer anymore. Most of my top down driving is during our winter months (now) or at night during the summer.
I also have tinted windows, however the car is primarily garage kept. When I do park it, I put the top and windows up to protect the interior as much as possible. Another reason why I don't attend too many daytime parking lot sit and bake shows...
I also suggest using a towel or buying one of those Corvette C5 seat covers which are basically towels with a logo and a hole cut out so that you can slip it over the seat.

Yep, the black seats get hot. Since my Vette is a coupe, when I leave my top off, I carry around a Carbrella canvas temp top to use when I park. As long as I'm staying local, from spring through early fall, my top spends most of the time hanging on the wall in the garage. The Carbrella top gets alot of use.

Even with a light oak interior, the dash and armrests still get incredibly hot in the Michigan summers. When the car is parked for a good stretch of time, the top goes up.

I traded a Miata for my vert a few months ago. Living seasonally in Florida I wanted a light color for the car. My Miata was silver with black top and interior and it was HOT. My vert is white with oak interior and top and is much better than the black was. I'd never buy black again.
