Removing under hood liner
Has anyone removed their black underhood liner? I took mine off to clean it and it looks so much better without it. Will anything bad happen without it?

Its main function is not to let engine heat bubble up the paint on the hood. Also acts as a sound deadner. That being said I took it off my Trailblazer SS, living here in the south and never have had a problem.

Pretty sure its primary purpose is to absorb sound and vibration. I removed mine over a year ago, as I also think it looks better without it.
check out this thread I started last year:

Mine looked like crap when I got my car last year. Removed it last winter and painted the underside flat black to match the trunk. Looks 100x better IMO.

Take it off and paint it! Best "dress up" mod I ever did in the engine bay. And your paint will be just fine, guys have had their liners off for years and their $XXXX custom paint jobs some of them get never have any issues.

I took mine off, and I like the look better.
Its a flat Silver paint under the cover.
I have not decided when I will paint the underside like the guys above.

Personally I thought about the "naked look" but I couldnt pull the trigger. I had to replace the original because it was looking pretty ratty. Hardly anyone carries the OEM hoodliner and the ones that do, the shipping charges are as much as the hoodliner itself. I found this custom kit on Ebay and it looks better than OEM, IMHO! But to each his own.

I took my time. Worked in sections, from the bottom of the hood up, left to right. Used 3M hoodliner adhesive, holds the liner like concrete. Personally I like this look better.

If you're worried about Heat, removed the aft most long edge seal thats close to the base of the windshield. It will allow air to flow through a lot better and keeping things under hood much cooler.

It looks like Toque and Must_Have_Z both run the same battery cover thing - who is the manufacturer of that piece?

It helped clean up the look of the engine bay.

Ive had my insulator off too...when I cleaned it and painted it. I remember seeing white primer under there!! It looked worse than the insulation did. Mine is definitely a candidate for a re-spray if I wanted to leave it off.
