I was just playing with my M6 2001 vert to see what mpg I could get out of it. So I drove 160 miles(round trip) from Va. Beach to Nags Head, NC at 55 mph. I got 31.6 mpg.

Now I do not normally drive 55 mph and I do not check my mpg on a regular basis. But it is good to know "if" I plan a long drive, I can do it cheaper and with style in my corvette!

I rarely reset the DIC and happened to look today, it said 16.5 average. I know somethings up because when I used to check it averaged higher than that, but I was actually driving around more then. Sometimes as low as 18 or as high as 24.

Lately (for a number of reasons) I've been just going a short distance and ideling parked (coffee, reading in the car).

Does anyone know if sitting around ideling throws off the overall average when the DIC calculates it ? (not the instant, Im talking about the average reading).

Long trip coming up and oil at 73%, its getting changed before the trip so Im not too concerned about sitting there ideling a bit for now.
Yes ideling with drop your AVG on the DIC, if you watch your avg at a stop light. it will drop .1 every few seconds or so

I checked mine recently, the first time in 2 years, and it was 13.6 mpg !! I do drive a lot in town and my journeys are pretty short.

I've owned a lot of performance cars in my life. I think its very cool that the fastest one I have ever owned gets the best mileage. But if I cared or was worried about mileage I wouldn't have bought a Vette. I almost cringe when I think that there are American V-8s out there that are being babied and barely used. They put that peice of American muscle and technology in there for a reason. To plant your back against the leather of the seat as you plant your foot on the gas! Drive careful....don't hurt yourself, your car or anyone else...but damn folks.....have some fun too! :~)

Since we installed the s/c, I don't check the mileage anymore. I can not go through a tank of fuel without getting on it, so the mileage suffers. When stock it got 29.8 mpg at 70 mph. I check mileage the old fashion way, by filling it up and dividing the miles by the fuel used.
Now the fun factor is to great, and I don't care what the mileage is.

Most all of my miles are in town or short trips just a few miles on the interstate, my DD is an 03 vert with a 6 speed, I have been getting mid to high 20's.

I expected a change when I removed the crud filled air filter and the old plugs that was in the car from the large well known dealership near philiadelphia but the mileage stayed the same.

I did take a longer ride to Allentown to see my doctor and on that take it was in the range of 28 mpg

Recently I had a new civic 5 speed and that did get 43 mpg in town, and I had a late model civic Si and that did 30 on regular fuel

I think the gas mileage is all in how much you want to fool around with the Go pedal, drive it like its a civic and you will get better than average mileage.

Wow, what a post, well here's my 2 cents worth.

1998 Coupe, stock, MN6, High Test 93 octane gas

Best mileage ever on a trip 33.6 mpg (DIC average) from Waldorf, MD to Ocean City, MD about 160 miles of level (few hills) driving, not too many lights. Speed was about 60 mph. I normally get about 44 mpg (instant) cruising on a level highway at 60 mph.

Mileage going to work 22.5 mpg, about 25 miles one way, mostly highway.

City mileage 16.5 mpg, traffic jams and many lights.

When my vette was stock I would get 28mpg on the highway (M6) and 24mpg combined.

Do you think down hill coasting really counts for averaging your MPG?

I get 29mph at 75 on a flat highway using cruise control.

Is the fuel in Great Britain blended with ethanol?

In the US, the typical pump blend has 10% ethanol. Higher percentages of ethanol, in the blend, will yield lower gas mileage.

No, ethanol hasn't really arrived yet. The standard brands are equivalent to 91 and 94 (US) octane.

I'm worrying now that everyone has me down as a boring old fart who only worries about gas mileage.

Mind you, when US gas prices double or maybe treble maybe I'll get some sympathy
