Didn’t Expect These Crazy MPG Figures!
Last week I completed a 150 mile round trip from my home in Palm City, FL to Melbourne, FL. I have a ’99 FRC 6-speed with a little over 20k on the odo.
I just happened to gas up before I hit Route 95 for the trip when I thought… hey, I’ll check out the MPG while I drive the way I usually do on the interstate. After exiting the entrance ramp I “plugged” her in at 72 MPH on cruise in 6th gear. The speed limit is 70 MPH.
Starting mileage was: 23228 with a full tank of Shell premium. Gassed up when I returned with 23380 on the odo.
23380 -23228 = 152.0 miles
I was a little surprised when she topped off after 4.754 gallons
With my eyes bulging I divided 4.754 gallons in 152.000 miles…
Moved the decimal point over to the right three places 4754 divided into 152000.000
Dumbfounded when I had to double check to see that I got 31.973… 32 MPG!
Wow this 6-speed FRC rocks! I never expected to see figures like that from a vehicle like this.
This is really unbelievable compared to the muscle cars I was familiar with from the sixties. Tell me there are more of you out there getting crazy MPG figures with these cars. Tell me I’m not alone…

It is pretty cool!! I got just over 31 mpg for my 1415 mile trip to Memphis, Nashville, and Bowling Green last year!!
2000 FRC, loaded with luggage, 70 mph mostly, caught in ruch hour twice, in July, so 100% AC usage.

My 03 convertible will average around 30-31 with the top up, drops by 2 - 3 MPG or so with the top down.
Got a best of 34.2 in my 92 coupe.

I enjoy driving my Vette... I don't baby her at all but the cruise control comes in handy on long interstate trips.
I never expected that kind of MPG doing 72. It blew my mind. I thought I was loosing it. Florida is mostly flat but hey, 32 with a Vette! I am amazed.
All right, Gary! Wwwoooiiieee! 34.2 MPG in your '92 coupe... that's gotta' be a high water mark for MPG with a Vette. Unbelievable.
It is good to hear that I am not alone. I can relax now.

I got right about 32 MPG when I bought the car and took it home to Atlanta From Orlando. It is amazing on what low RPM's can do for gas economy. Oh yes I am in an 03 Z06

That is awesome but not unheard of with these cars. I did a trip from New orleans to Biloxi a couple months ago, averagd 28.3 MPG @ 70 ish give or take 5 MPH, AC on. Now I do have the 3.15 Gearing so I get a little less MPG that the 2.73.

When I had my 6-speed '00 coupe, I consistently got 30+ mpg out on the highway. Even with my '03 auto, I get 27+ mpg. Not too bad for a car with high performance capabilities.

28.5 last year on a 1800 mile round trip to gatlinburg/ thru blueridge parkway and home. best of 34 on a 500 mile round trip to key west and back in my 03 auto. average over 22 during the week.

My modded and tuned '03 Z06 still does 30-32 mpg on the highway if I behave at almost legal cruise speeds. Still get 27-28 if not. This is the best secret about these cars. Non-vette owners never believe me, they always guess around 14-15 mpg on the highway. Most of them are driving bland cars that get less.

2000 FRC here,,and have gotten great mileage as well.On a 600+ mile trip from St.Louis area to Atlanta,,2 adults,,and packed to the gills with luggage,,and at times going a tad faster than you were() on everything from hills to mountains,,and still calculated close to 30 mpg!! Our club had an economy run a few months ago on 2lane highways and country roads,,and with a bit more prudent driving(and I kept to the speed limits,,not really babying it) I took 2nd place for C5's at 33.71,,first was 34.6. The amazing thing is I've also had it at the strip and turned a 13.08/110.24!! Faster and quicker than the monster motored 60's muscle cars,,and the fuel economy of modern econo cars!! Ya gotta love these cars!!!
