Default Dealership gave me a break today on rearend leak.

I have a 2004 coupe that has a leak in the rear end. It looks like it is leaking between the rear end and the transmission. The car only has 6800 miles and the service manager said he would repair it with no charge to me. I guess I took it on the right day.

Nice...I'd say take a bottle or a case of beer when you pick it up. It's nice to see some dealers do the right thing!! Congrats on your good luck

Wow, thats cool as it costs a solid 4-5 hours of labor to get to it. Buy them some donuts at a minimum, beer or whatever.

Two years ago, they did the same thing for me on my '02 coupe.

Congrats!

Korvette Kat:
I live in Norcross and have an '01 vert with 7100 miles and the same butt leak. Do you mind me asking who the dealer was? Sounds like someone I would like to know. Thanks. Roy

I had a leak in that spot on mine too. It was a $650 repair and all it is is a silicone gasket. Lots of labor to repair though. Thank goodness I had an extended warranty.

Nice that the dealer is fixing yours at no cost.

It's a very common problem, but nice of them to go to bat for you.
Did you buy it there?

Yep, this problem is among the ranks of the defective door lock (just look at how many hits this thread got, http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1944135) , and poor grounds to mention two others.

We can't help but still love our cars anyway

Korvette Kat, great to hear there were no $$$ out of your pocket. I am hoping to fix mine in the spring.

Are you all talking about the output shaft seal leak? Have you actually climbed under the car and verified exactly where the leak is coming from? The output shaft seal is the common problem the C5's have, anything else is above common. here's what I'm talking about:

The dealer is Hardy Chevrolet in Gainesville Ga. I bought the car used on Christmas Eve last December from someone else. I knew it had the leak, I found it while checking it out before I bought it and negotiated the price accordingly. It was hard to tell exactly where it was coming from, at that time I thought it was coming out of the left side somewhere.

I had the car on a rack Saturday changing the oil and noticed the leaking fluid was on the rear lip of the transmisson pan. It is not transmission fluid, so this leads me to believe the leak is coming out of the front of the rearend.

I left the car with the Hardy Boys this evening, they treated me like I bought it from them, they are to start on it in the morning.

They have a 2007 red conv. and a 2008 silver conv. on the lot. Maybe they saw me checking them out before I went to the service department.

So here is a for Hardy Chevrolet of Gainesville.

The sick part is that some of you are excited that a dealer is going to help you with a piece of crap design that should be a disgrace to GM engineers.

I would be more excited to see a joint effort against GM on issues like the and the CLB fix that isn't a fix at all.

You obviously don't have a lot of experience with dealers fixing your car. We get happy because dealers usually break their neck and sell their first born to get out of going below and behind the call of duty. To hear that they will do something that didn't take a congressional hearing and an act by the supreme court is unheard of. That's why we get happy about stuff like this.
