Good man - you caught the funnay!

In fact - you can buy a whole 02 Z06 for much less than a crate LS7, which lists for 20K!

Default LS3 in an ZR-1

Please tell us all that you are just kidding!!! Putting an LS3 engine in a ZR-1 is like painting a mustache on the Mona Lisa.

Sell the ZR-1 and buy a Z06. You will save yourself money, aggravation and the sacrilegious destruction of an Icon of which your brothers will never forgive you.

Wait, this message just in!!! Luke, this is OB1, resist your urges, step away from the dark side!

I would think it would be an easy drop in. Custom motor mounts and wiring harness would be all that is needed. They have done it with regular C4s and there isnt' anything different about a ZR-1 over the base C4 as far as engine mounting goes. The only way I would consider going this route though (if i had a Z) would be if the LT5 was completly shot (like putting a rod through the block) and I needed a new motor anyways. The only thing that might be a problem is if you went with a LS7, you would need to find a place to mount the dry sump reservoir.

The other option would be to get a base coupe, drop in the LSX motor, and graft on the Z body panels.

Would that be an easy swap into my ZR1?
Why not an L-98? You could enter it into some stump pulling competitions!!!

The ZR-1 may not be able to handle the awesome torque of the mighty L-98

I dont know what the LS9 is going for but if memory serves me the LT5s were $25,000 over the counter when they came out 20 years ago.The swap of an LS motor in a Z is something Ive thought about.Find a car without the motor and call it a day. Now,removing an LT5 to make room for an LS motor, cant see that. But an LS6 with a twin turbo setup, brutal.I happen to know somebody that has an new LS6 sitting on a shelf.Dont know if its a 385 or 405 H.P.an d he want s to sell it pretty bad.

If the Heart of the Beast is replaced with something else, I say the ZR-1 emblems need to come off as it is no longer a ZR-1.

I think Ecklers use to sell L05 rear bumper emblem....

A ZR-1 is much like a thoroughbred race horse, you can cut off a leg but its still a thoroughbred, only butchered….

Hey man, if it's a race to 30 mph, leave the ZR-1 at home.

The DOHC 5.7 is a great engine. Just CNC port and polish the heads, plenum, long tube headers, Borla custom pipe the cat back, and Breathless Performance Ram Air and a tune you have a 450-470 horse high revvving joy ride. Don't change the cam or timing, or cubic displacement. Don't get BB tri-flos either their resonator sucks.

borla exhaust costs too much hp. their resonator too restrictive . get a dr gas xpipe and spin tech mufflers add 20 hp over a flowmaster cat back exhaust . almost no resonance
