Default CTS LS6 Crate motor in a C-5

Just when I deceide to bite the bullet and go for a LS6 crate motor I find out that GM no longer offers one for the Corvette only the CTS. I have been told all you have to do is change the oil pan and maybe the clutch and flywheel.
My installer is questioning the swap and starting to set me up for some possible "problems" as he has never done a CTS in a C-5.

Anyone out have any expirence in doing this install. Is it just the changes mentioned above or more serious?

I had the caddy LS6 installed in my '99 C5 recently. Hydrolocked the original motor. According to the mechanic that did the swap the oil pan swap was the only change required along with reusing the original exhaust manifolds. Good luck, Michael.

So did your LS1 pan fit the LS6 or did you have to buy a vette LS6 pan?

I did not think to ask about the ls1 vs the ls6 oil pan. Would like to know the answer also.

Since GM is not selling the LS6 crate motor for the Corvette any more there has to be others that installed the CTS-v engine in their c-6.

The LS1 engine oil pan was a direct bolt on for the LS6 block. Michael

Where did you get this?

The GM performance catalog shows the LS6 crate

http://www.gmperformanceparts.com/Pa...l.jsp?engine=2

but if they are not selling them, bummer. Very desirable and reliable engine

The engines themselves are the same. The only differences were subtle things like the oil pan to make it fit in different cars. You wouldn't have any problem putting the CTS-V LS6 in your C5. We actually have them on special right now in long block form as opposed to crate engine form, so you might want to pick up an LS6 intake to go with it. The price is virtually unbeatable. $3115 for a complete longblock and flat rate $129 shipping. You can't find more info and pictures here:
http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/sponso...3115-00-a.html

And if you have any questions at all just ask me or Tim here or give us a call! We can answer any questions you may have about making the swap.

OK, so my LS1 pan fits, as for the Z06 intake, my car is an 03. I thought I read on these forms that the 03 LS1 has the Z06 intake. Is this correct?

That's what I just did.

I had to buy a new pan though. - ouch

SDPC can swap the pilot bearing/pan assembly w/ windage tray etc to make it drop in your C5 correctly.

And they will credit you on the unused parts.

That's exceptional - a great price - under $4k shipped for basically a complete new motor w/ everything.

Here's hoping it's the last motor for a while -

-Ken
