Its an under dash antenna that plugs into the radio. Reception is ok but goes in and out sometimes. I dont usually use it anyway I stream music off my iphone with bluetooth. It was a cheaper one so Im sure there are better ones.

When you say you upgraded to an '88 style, what exactly did you upgrade? Did the mast and nylon cord get replaced or are there other items? I have an 86 with a good motor and broken nylon cord. I am having trouble determining exactly what parts to order. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

If your motor and antenna are good then you just need the nylon cord. I have seen them for under $20, but you need to search to get that price.
My recollection is that the mast is around $70.
The '88 and newer was a complete redesign and doesn't look at all like the older ones.

My motor works. The nylon broke. I just need the nylon cord with the last section of the antenna attached to it that threads through the rest of the antenna. I have seen these from Ecklers and Mid America, but they look to be universal types. I am just concerned with compartibility.

I did the same thing you did. I had an electronic signal amplifier antenna. I have had one in our other car for 12 years now. Radio signal is as good or better than mast type antenna
I also put a plug in the body. Lost 3-4 lbs. Sound is great and didn't cost me anything. I had a second one I wasn't using

Just ordered the nylon cord from the source mentioned for my '86 Pace Car. Since this thread has been resurrected, I'm going to ask again if anyone has done this in a roadster?
I'm curious as to how accessible the connectors are compared to the coupe, and if anyone has any convertible specific tips on the procedure.
thanks

Power antenna problems.
Nice write up as I did with my also. Will definitely help if you have not been down that road before.
Be thankful you have screws that hold the assembly together. Mine (94) has those darn plastic rivets that have to be drilled out and removed. I re-drilled everything and put in screws.

Burning Brakes
I am also done with the stupid power antenna. Mine is stuck **** up and I have no intention of repairing the stupid thing. Hidden antenna and plug hole for me.

I'm resurrecting this thread because I have an issue with my 1987 power antenna. The antenna motor works but the mounting bracket from the car frame to the motor has broken, The antenna assembly is now sitting, wire tied under the car. I need to remove the piece of the mounting bracket that is still attached to the frame. Has anyone replaced the bracket and how difficult was it to do that? I've been told that it may require the removal of the bumper which I really don't want to do nor do I have the tools to do so. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I have a '94 convertible. The antenna is up about four inches when the radio is turned off. I know I have to replace the mast/nylon cord. I don't want to take the entire motor out. Were you able to replace the mast/nylon cord from the top of the car? If so, how did you take the rubber trim piece out that is around the mast?
