interior courtesy lights
HI, I have a 1990 c4, the courtesy lights are always on, and do not go off when engine is started, or when doors are closed. Any suggestions?
Thanks Jim

Lots of threads on this. Try jiggling the key in the door locks, the switch in the door has to be straight up and down. Try pushing the door ajar switches manually, possible one is not getting pushed in far enough when the door closes.

I just solved this same problem on my 1986 Vette, with the help of other people from this forum. Not knowing what I was doing, the repair took me about one hour. Temporarilly, I pulled the crtsy lt fuse. This also controlled the power antenna, so I was not able to catch any radio stations. The permanent solution was to replace the courtesy light circuit board. I purchased a courtesy light circuit board from Ecklers for $40. The board is located behind the glovebox on the inner firewall. A plastic panel in the passenger side floorwell must first be removed. Very easy. The difficult part was to locate the circuit board. I found it behind the black security box near the electronic control module. Once located, it came down easy enough. Pll out the old circuit board. Put in the new board. Reposition back on the firewall. Plug in the fuse. Put the panel back on. Everything is great.

Pulled one fuse and removed cargo light bulbs. Life is too short, and could go crazy on this unless one of the simple solutions work, which it did not for me. It's a complicated system that even involves a light sensor.

There's no light sensor in the courtesy light system.
The key in the door has nothing to do with the system.
I think it's pretty simple, but I'm an electronic engineer...
I did write a Forum article on the courtesy light delay circuit:

You are correct. The Ambient Light Sensor (photocell) is part of the courtesy light system in a 1990 (reference 1990 FSM, page 8A-114-0).
