Default Lets see your modified hood ( non stock)

I am looking for a new hood to replace the stock one on my 1978 corvette. New ZZ383 doesn't fit under the stock hood. Ok it might but just in case lets see pictures of your hoods. Looking for similar looking corvette's like my 78. Looking for an additional 1" compared to stock, nothing over done.

Thanks...

Default If you're looking for something a little different...

Here's my work-in-progress for a short hood although a longer version would work fine on your 78.

Joe

You've quick work on this! It's looking great...what's the overall scheme/style you're going after?

The PO started this with my hood so I went with it. I too needed clearance, and I was planning on an L-88 style. It's the Motion style/replica scoop grafted on. I think it would fit (able to straddle the raised center) you hood. It's functional, which I like, but maybe not the best depending on the look you're after...?

I really like this! Has anyone ever finished the cutouts to make it a functional flow-through design? I'd think it'd be a great improvement for cooling and significantly reduce cooling drag. With aircraft they match the intake to outlet when looking for greater efficiency...it makes a huge difference. It looks great!

I just wanted something different and this was something I figured I could handle.

I don't have a very good eye for what looks good when finished or what kind of scheme/style will be cool lol. I just hope for the best

LOL, I hear ya! That always the risk you run when you begin to change things...some will love it, some will hate it!

I remember your OP on this idea, and to be honest wasn't sure about it, but you've pulled it off nicely. I think is suits a more modern styled C3 perfectly. On a bumper car, imho the plastic would seem out of place, but if done completlly in glass, it'd look great too!

Yeah. It's true that it's the only plastic so far on the car so when done might look out of place. They make a carbon fiber one or you can paint to match the car...so we'll see.

I wish I had the guts as I'm not a huge fan of all the chrome bumpers so might black them out eventually.. that'll really make some people here cry

You could always go with a Stinger hood. Needed about an inch from the stock hood and this one gives plenty of room.

Default Hoods

Not sure if this hood is still available. The top of the L88 flame arrester is about 1/4 in from the underside of the hood.

My '68 project......this hood has about a 3 to 3 & 1/2" rise......

There is about 1/2" to 3/4" clearance above this full-size air cleaner on an Edelbrock carb.......

See my sites for pix, but the hood is unique in that it's totally hollow under the bulge, which is aftermarket put on a stock 'flat' hood.....

the hood is reverse hinged, the hood pins work off the front bolts on the old hood hinge, the hinges near the cowl are from chevy Lumina van/Olds Sillouette

reverse hinged because up/over air induction.....
