PWM Fan Controllers
Can you provide the part number so I can get the right set?
Thanks, Greg

They are a module used by Mazda and Mitsubishi.
DblTrbl covered them in a great thread.
https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...oft-start.html
You can get the pigtails as well if you want but after getting them I thought they looked too modern for my engine bay so just made up female spade connectors and my own loom.
Each module can do 2 fans but I chose to use one per fan.
I got mine new on eBay for about $20 each.
(interchange codes for the Mazda/Mitsubishi module are: 1355A124, 1355S124, 1355-A124, 1355A125, 1355A053, 1C232-19700, AJY215SC0, AJ51-15-15YA, AJY2-15-SC0, 1C23219700, MR497751)

So I have been working on the car stereo and have purchased a multimeter with an oscilloscope display function to help sort some things out.
To start I love the look of the AAR reproduction radio but it has some drawbacks.
- the RCA output has pop noise on power down (overcome with some electronics mentioned in earlier posts).
- the RCA output is not high voltage by todays deck standards.
- the amp starts to clip abruptly at around 70 to 75 % volume.
- the fader is inconvenient to access other than in radio.
The Bluetooth works well and overall its here to stay so I am sorting out the deficiencies.
Using the scope function I can see exactly where the maximum usable output RCA volume of the deck is (will show in later post)
I can boost the decks RCA output with a line driver that will get the RCA voltage up a bit then feed it into an amp.
Each step needs to have the gains adjusted so you have a clean sounds and it all works together. That’s where the scope helps, the nice sine wave will clip and go square when the distortion happens.
Over the next week I will sort it all and post back what I did.
I know it will sound great sitting still then will be battling with the engine, exhaust and road noise once on the move but it’s all good fun.

This is the reason I’m removing my radio and installing a radio delete plate.
At 70 mph, with the windows down and the 496 making its own tempo, I’d never be able to hear the radio anyway.

With the amps etc I can still hear it but given all the noise at speed you need a volume control with a logarithmic progression.
a bit of an exercise in futility but I accept that.

It’s just like the guys who have invested huge amounts of money on the stereos on their Harleys.
They sound good (some do, most, not so much) at a signal light, but with loud exhaust and cruising at 70 mph, why???

So to get back to the stereo, also known as "exercise in futility"
I have used an AudioPipe Equaliser and line driver to increase the line voltage of the AAR deck to a more reasonable level before it gets to the amp. This means the amp gets a higher voltage clean RCA signal.
The AudioPipe EQ also supports Bluetooth streaming but I have turned that off as the AAR deck does as well.
They sit under the seat and are connected via aluminium brackets.
The Infinity sub sits in the bottom of the storage box (see previous posts)
Now to get it all adjusted.
First I connect my multimeter in scope mode to the RCA coming from the deck and watch the signal (I am playing constant 60 hertz tone via bluetooth)
When the sine wave goes square the sound is distorting (clipping). So you can determine the maximum safe volume the deck can be turned up before you could damage your speakers (and it would sound like &^$^$%).
Now I set the decks volume at just below its maximum safe level and move my scope to the output RCA’s of the equaliser and set its gain controls the same way.
Finally I attach the scope to the speaker wires (they have been disconnected through all this) and set the amps gain controls.
The theory is you have matched all the signal levels and then have good clear sound to the maximum from each component in the chain without distortion or clipping (or speaker damage)
And it does sound much clearer and louder than when I started.

Now I can move on to installing my new carpet.
Starting in the back. I had left them in the sun for a while but they have been in the box for a long time and will take a while to settle down flat.

I thought of that when I worked on my Stereo. That's why I went with Fiero seats with 3.5" speakers in the headrests. I can here the music at any speed because they are right behind my ears. That combined with the Infinity sub makes for pretty good sound with the T-roofs off and flying down the road.
Enjoy.
Enjoy.

Some progress on the carpets. Changing from loop to cut and colour.
Storage compartment lids.
Trying to get it all level and sitting down. Only want to use some spray adhesive on the back of the rear bulkhead where it wraps around.
I purchased a pair of carpet scissors on Amazon that make the trimming so easy.

Thanks Andy, these scissors are amazing, cut the carpet and underlay like its paper.

Cost about A$35 but worth every cent.

I purchase the plush carpet from Al Knoch.
They offer an 80/20 and the upgraded Plush.
The 80/20 was the carpet installed for the standard interior option and the Plush is the carpet installed in the Deluxe Leather Interiors.

This is the second set I have fitted. I did a cut pile in Royal Blue around 2010 but decided to update with cut pile this time.
They are ACC cut pile carpets, quality looks good only fault so far was one of the rear sides had underlay glued on with a slight overlap. Quick cut and all good.
I purchased via Willcox but contacted ACC direct for colour samples. I got them to send me many different blue colours to get the match I was after with my interior parts.

I got back onto the carpets this week. Decided to add some extra heat barrier under the front carpets. I purchased this years back and was sold for aircraft and meant to handle very high temperature. We will see.
Place sheet in place and then make cuts and tape back together to build the shape that is needed.
Then carpets, lots of trimming and one side done.
So good to have some of the trim back on after a few years of the Vette being without carpets and most interior trim.
I will say again, buying a good pair of carpet scissors has made this so much easier.
