You really need a speaker design book to get it right & it's not that difficult. Don't expect good results from a random size box w/ random speakers. Normally car speakers are infinite baffle meaning the larger the box the better.

It's not easily done since small boxes are needed. This is a high SQ setup.

There is a speaker design book that has a similar design & can use radio shack speakers.

good find... I agree on the volume requirements. I actually have mine out currently - so I will take pics and post this weekend.
I like that design as it is only 5" deep - but I do not know if that will offer enough volume. That said - my side pipes are soooo loud - does it even matter?
nice pics guys...

I have it in my 69 convert with a Kenwood shallow 8" subwoofer. Fits perfectlly and gets the job done. Not perfect for sound on the 8" woofer but the 6x9 love it and for $100 its a great option.

I've been looking at this box on flea-bay ever since I got my '81. They make an 8", 10", & 12". They claim that shallow mount subs will work pretty good in them, but I have some doubts since I have yet to see a single post from anyone with this set up.

I like the idea of being able to put T-Tops and other stuff back there... I may re-do mine. BUT that said - volume has to be there...
Her is mine.... its out to put a grill on the woofer.
Dims are 31" x 8.5" x 12.75" w/the wings. Sub is a 10" and 5.75" ish deep
BTW - the enclosure was upside down when I took pics. !!!!

Ok. It seems like the convertible guys don't go this route ? I know when the top is down the speakers will be obscured. I guess I will forge ahead anyway. My rear carpet is out and now is the time to do it......I'm going to try to make a custom box that will use as much of the available space as possible without interfering with the top or the compartment doors. The storage left over is a joke anyway so even if it becomes a bizarre shape I'll see what I can get for cubic inches.

All I did was to use poster board and trim until the ends were at the right angles then make sure the height and width was right and transfereed the pattern and cut the wood so it was just enough for the 6x9's(used plywood). The sub is a 6 inch sub, but works fine. depth is probably 6 inches or so I don't remember. I covered it all with some marine grade leather grained vinyl I had for a bike project. I have a slim amp inside the box as well for the sub. My head unit is just a Sony unit with a sub pre output. I have fairly loud pipes and can hear it fine, even with tops off at highway speed no problem. The Ttops fit perfect underneath. It was the very first thing I did when I bought the car, I had to have good tunes!

I built the boxes just big enough to house the 6x9 Alpne speaker. Wraped the boxes with material that most manufacturers use. They sound decent but I dont have alot of money tied up in the sound system. The exhaust sounds so much better.
