CORVETTE STEREO REAR SPEAKERS
More into HP & Performance than car stereo. Have been asked about the rear speakers.
Some Design Requirements:
High quality sound. Move all the air in the car, i.e. feel it. Room for T-Tops. Light.
Decided to do rear speakers. Since rear speakers need a box & home speakers are already designed in a box, this is a fast solution. The disadvantage is that more power is required, easily solved w/ an amp.
Based on previous experience (one time briefly ran 2 home speakers w/ 8" woofers in a car) & considering the small interior volume guesstimated 2 8s would do it- move all the air in the car, i.e. feel it. Could not find any that would fit & then read about some new speakers that had just came out & special ordered them. They had w/ 2 long throw 4s (equil. to 2 8s) & a dome in each.
Special ordered a HU w/o amp. & amp. Put the large amp. in the center rear compartment. Tray was removed to aid cooling & since a large amp. won't fit in tray or through the door. If the amp. got too hot in the center rear compartment, it could be mounted between the speakers. The removable rear speakers are mounted angled some on an Al. rod & used an Al. bar between to separate. Later tweaked (an audiophile term for modified) the rear speakers w/ Pioneer car component dome tweeters & used my special wiring to speakers.
It worked- ROCKS !
Kenwood eXcelon mask CD. Thought about mounting it between the speakers & using the remote. Rarely use it.
The engine makes enough music for me.
Some center ch. speakers are similiar.

Very clean looking install and you've got room for other stuff. Probably have to flatter you with imitation one of these days.

Ganey, elementat designs has an amazing 8" sub that you might like, I figure that my setup will be finished and ready to roll next spring with dual 10's and moving my component speakers to my doors as I refinish those in leather. Will put 150 w to the components and 800 to the subs. Also this way I can put my dashtop back to original that had no speaker holes.

Nice job. :) Must be nice to have both sound and storage. LoL. Don't know if you've seen my setup but it didn't leave much in the way of room for groceries. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/zerothread?id=633928 But I love my stereo. Actually, I think I should have gone with something other than Kenwood subs. They just can't take the 1000 watts...

A recessed interior light could be mounted there. Photo was taken for a forum member who asked for it after I mentioned the setup. Actually did not try to make it look good, guess it's a race setup.
Sounds good.

Sounds good.
Have thought about doing the doors in leather & mounting speakers in doors.
Expect you noticed they were Monitor speakers.

those speakers fit a C3 perfectly especially for those of us vert owners who are space challenged. The design of them resembles my home theatre center channel speakers - I actually see where they are now selling center channel car audio speakers to go with the car dvd a/v setups now.
