Body off of Frame...
How hard is it to take the body off the frame? Does anyone have a check list of everything that needs to be done to take the body off? What is the best way/method to take/lift the body off? Thanks Guys...

I removed my body by using a bunch of jacks and pushing up from the bottom of the car. Once I got the body high enough off of the frame, I slid some 4x4s accross the bottom of the body and continued to lift. When the body was high enough up, I rolled the chasis out from underneath. The engine hoist in the picture below was used to help support the front end while I lifted the body (which probably wasn't necessary to do)
Lifting the body like this is easy to do with one person but it is very tedious and time consuming. I don't plan to lower the body back onto the frame using this method. If I were to do it over again, I think I would just have used my engine hoist and a lift strap.
I have purchased a body-lift strap from ecklers that I will use with my engine hoist when I lower the body onto the frame. Moving the body around on the hoist when trying to align body mount and bumper bolts seems like it would be a lot easier.
I'm sure others can expand this list, but off the top of my head this is what you need to disconnect to lift the body:
1. fuel lines from pump
2. transmission cooler lines (if you have an automatic)
3. rag joint
4. parking brake cable
5. brake lines from master cylinder
6. (I don't know what it is called) but disconnect the wire that connects to the block that the brake lines run to just after the master cylinder
7. all wiring harnesses connecting to the engine
8. vacuum lines from the engine (to the headlights and brake booster)
9. cable running from the battery box to the frame (disconnect it from the frame)
10. coolant lines to/from radiator, manifold, and heater core
11. front bumper bolts (at least on my '79)
12. rear bumper bolts (at least on my '79)
13. all 8 body mount bolts (4 on each side)
Once you start to lift your body, do so very slowly. Constantly stop and inspect the car for wires and things that you forgot to disconnect.
