Default Looking for GM Executive

Does anyone know of a Donald H. Andrews. He was a GM Exec. from Ft Lauderdale Florida back in the 60's. He owned a silver/silver RX fuelie Vet. It also was an original K.O wheel roadster with many other nice options. It had a special GM paint job, dark blue dash, J65 brake package to name a few. I found this vet in a barn. It has been there since 1976.

I have much of the original docs. but I am looking for any one who may have know him?

Thanks,

Sam

Sounds like a pretty neat find. Do you have any pics that you can post for everyone to see?

Where did you find and how did you come across the car? Did you buy the car and was it titled in his name. Who owned the car when you found it and bought it if you did? Post some pic if you can. You may want to try googling his name and see what comes up. Good luck.

Default The Andrews VET

I found and purchased this car in a barn a little over a year ago. Again the car has been in this barn since 1976. I found out the original owner, Donald H. Andrews was a GM Exec. I do have much of the original docs. And have taken tons of pictures of the find. I will try and post some.

Here are the specs on the car: For the fun of it I broke them down into percentages.

*A31* power windows, *T86* Back up lamps, *C07* Auxiliary Hardtop, *J65* Sintered Metallic Brakes, *J50* Power Brakes, *M21* 4 Speed Manual Transmission, *G81* 4.11 Positraction Rear Axle, *U69* AM-FM Radio. *K66* Transistor Ignition System made 552 (2.48%) Only about 70 on fuelie engines! not offered in 1963, made 3,686 in 1965, & 7,146 in 1966. *L84 375 HP RX* Fuel Injected Engine, Made 70 (.003%), made 2,610 in 1963 and 771 in 1965. *P48* Cast Aluminum Knock-Off Wheels, 806 factory cars. (3.63%). 1963 no factory cars, 1965, made 1,116 factory cars. **N32* Teakwood Steering Wheel *1965 Option* made 2,259 ( 9.58%). *N36* Telescopic Steering Column, *1965 Option*, made 3,917 (16.62%). *

*GM special paint job*, Original lacquer paint with a clear coat put on at the Detroit factory, very rare. Dark blue dash special also special ordered. *491BE* Silver interior, while there is no exact total on this option. The Silver interior was and extremely rare color option in 1964. Approximate total was far less then 1% of interior colors offered in 1964. Some of these rare factory production option’s were offered with limited production runs only in 1964. *Andrews also added a *Power Antenna, *and a day/night *Rear View Mirror*, both of witch were *1965 options*.

Some people have all the luck. Very cool. What are or were the stickers on the right front bumper while it was in the barn?

Default The Andrews VET

Mostly a ton of cleaning and checking out everything. New hoses, belts, and spark plug wiring. took off original j65 shoes and wheel cylinders, put them on the shelf as I don't want to were down the shoes. Had the trans and engine check out. Took of the original spinners (just about NOS) and put on some retro's, same with the expansion tank cap. All chrome and rubber is in amazing shape. Both soft and hard tops are in great shape too! The person I bought the car from had much of the engine either services or rebuilt before he put it in storage for 33 plus years. A very original car that runs really like a new car! The only thing I want to do now is have a couple small paint spots filled in that were sanded out and never finished. I was also given two gallons of original paint to do this. And find some more history on Andrews? There is a bit more history on the car I can share it you want?

Thanks,

Sam

Default The Andrews VET

More History on the Andrews Vet: I Found out the car is called the Andrews Vet, giving by some of the Corvette people that have been in the corvette world for over 40 years! I spoke to some of them that new both Andrews and the car when new! Donald Andrews the GM Executive lived down in Ft Lauderdale, had order the car with the specs I mentioned before. I was also told that Donald had the car shipped to Detroit to have a special GM paint job put on the car. This may explain why the cars paint has held up so well all these years. He also had a dark blue dash installed as well. During its production, because Andrews has access to 65 parts, he had the following installed on the car: These parts were 65 K.O wheels, 65 antenna, 65 fuelie emblems, 65 rear view mirror and Teak steering wheel were also installed on the car. When I bought the car all but the steering wheel where still on the car. The older man I bought the car from also gave me an original 64 steering wheel, 64 antenna, 64 mirror, and original 64 fuelie emblems. I am leaving the 65 original K.O wheel on the car because it is parts of the car history and I am fine with them.

I do have much of the original documentation. The original engine pad has not shaved, and is in great condition. My mechanic has taken pictures of this as well. The car over all is in amazing condition, and runs great! All the chrome, rubber molding, are also in great original condition, the interior is as well. The spinners are just about NOS! The original fuel injected system and air cleaner are also in amazing condition. Trans in great shape too!

The only thing left to do on the car is fill in a few small sanded spots on the front area of the car and behind the fuelie emblems, that the person I bought it from sanded, as he wanted to change the emblems back to 64's and touch up the paint a bit. He did give me two gallons of original silver lacquer paint to have these spots fill in. I also ordered original style reproduction black wall tires for the car. I just like the way they look on silver Corvettes. Also I order reproduction belts and hoses or the engine compartment, and brake hoses. I took off the original J65 shoes and delco wheel cylinder, and put on new metallic brake shoes and new wheel cylinders for now. I don't want to ware down the J 65 shoes do to how hard they are to find, and very expensive to replace. I will keep them in storage as well.

Really I only posted to try and get more information on Andrews. But I don't mine sharing this history on the car.

Sam

Great car and good luck on your search. If one does the math, I guess one would assume that if he was an Exec with GM in the early to mid sixties, he was probably somewhere between 35-45 yrs of age. Tack on 45 years and and you are looking at someone between 80-90 years old. The odds that he is still with us is around 15%. depending where he falls within that ten year range.

Just a note; The drums will expire before the pads wear out.

103 Thous. miles The Andrew's apparently drove the car as their daily driver. However I understand it was serviced extremely well. As I do have some of the original service coupons.
