Default another way

Heres another way to remove the ads:

Use Firefox 2.0.
Download an ad-on called Adblock:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1865

look at all blockable elements on a page with the ad.
Block anything from hypemakers.net.... use this format:
http://www.hypemakers.net/*

The asterisk is a wildcard
There is probably a similar approach to blocking ads for IE.

I've been using adblock and firefox for a long time now and most ads on the web are never displayed to me.

I would have to say the worst part about this whole deal.... poor placement. Whoever the sad coder is that thinks the ad looks good embedded in the first post like that ... is one sad person!

Face it ads can and will be defeated....but and ugly website is just wrong!

Oh and add http://*.googlesyndication.com/* to your block list.

My thread and I were cut off. Nice way to treat a person who has made contributions for eight years. I managed to get back on but for how long?

If no one sees it, then the use will discontinue as the customers complain.

They're pulling the ads. The following is a link to the discussion in OT where someone from Internet Brands responds.

I really hate pop ups and ads.... one of the things I liked most about this site (besides all the nice people) was the uninterupted conversation. To me its just more invasion into every part of our lives!!!!

Sometimes we just want a place to go to that is what we want it to be ....

Guys,

For what its worth, I'm posting the PM I sent to Savethewave, Moderator in OT and his response. Since this thread in OT was locked down, I ended up calling the posted 1-800 # listed there towards the end of that long thread. Here is my PM and Savethewave's response. I do believe we will see this pop up video stream moved from the 1st page of every topic...soon (I hope).

So, I contacted IB directly, via phone. I spoke with a Customer Service lady, Debbie Murano. I explained why I felt the pop up ads appearing in the 1st page of each and every topic was "overload." Suggested as others in your topic had posted that it would make more sense to have this pop up ad appear once as the user opened up their section (e.g. C1/C2, C3, C4 etc...) and not in each and every topic in that section. I also pointed out that a number of forum members do go out during the day, at work, and follow their specific topic of interest. Now that these pop up videos are in place, accessing the Corvetteforum is blocked by the use of Websense. This is now become very frustrating for the user community who are still in the work world and are held accountable to using company property for personal use (not that this every takes place (smile).

I realize this is a business (and BIG business) to catch the eye of the user to sell products and services. But, all the supporting vendors are easily clicked on if a user needs their product or services. It is very easy to find them on the Corvetteforum.

I've been a member since 2000. I became a life time member strictly from wanting to "give back" to this very helpful Corvette community. There have been countless times that discussions on a specific "how to do this" or "what is the order to fix that" have helped me immensely. Where else could I go to get the right answer, in a timely fashion, to fix my 42 year old Vette?

The analogy with the pop up videos showing up on each and every 1st page of every thread is like sitting in your home with a group of folks having a lively discussion on some aspect of your Vette and having a stranger walk into your house, approach your table and begin to try and sell you vacuum cleaners. Seriously, this new ad approach is a bad distraction at the very least.

I expressed all of this to Debbie and was assured that this would be communicated to her boss, Lisa Joshua, Monitoring Services.

I mention all this to you to give you a headsup on this.

Again, love this forum and do expect change but these pop up streaming videos have no place in the topics.

Thanks for your ear.

Regards,

Jim Karam (6T5RUSH)

Thanks for your comments, Jim. Good to hear from another '65 owner.

Although you already have talked to someone at IB, I'm going to pass your comments along to my contact at IB. I think the IB folks were surprised by the negative reaction to the streaming video ad since they have used it on another site/sites with no issues. I'm sure they'll try to find a way to address the concerns.

I think we need to exercise some patience and reasonableness with these new owners. Don't get me wrong. I want these gone just as quickly as they suddeny appeared. Do believe this will happen. Like that kitten hanging on the top of that fence...just hang in there. We're approaching a holiday weekend and don't believe this removal will take place 'till Tuesday/Wednesday. I believe it will happen.

Regards,

Jim

The two things I took away from the IB response - Its about money and its our sandbox. If this is the START...just think about the long range plans for the site...I've worked with computers for 20 years, Seaside, Bweaver, and another one or two also have lots of computer experience.

I will be looking into the cost of this software, hardware, and a T1.

News Flash: Internet Brands--take notice. We're losing some of our most valuable contributors and without them, your acquisition of the Corvette Forum will soon be rather hollow and empty while your competitors will become enriched.

I sense a movement here, and Internet Brands will not be the beneficiary. As other Forum members have, I've already registered with some of the alternate sites suggested on this thread, and intend to monitor each for a few weeks before I choose my preferred option to this now apparently disintegrating and former favorite Corvette-related resource.

I've aready contributed my fee to become a "Lifetime Gold Member" of this site, and feel it's pretty lame to now be scammed by additional money-grabbing tactics. Nor should any other members who enjoy and contribute to our Forum.

You should have done a few focus groups among Forum Members to assess impressions of the concept of such commercialism before igniting the messy backlash you now, Internet Brands, have on your rather greasy hands.

I wonder why they have those intrusive ads in the first thread. Rx7Club, MBWorld, Mustang Forums, HDForums, and F150Online, all have the ads streched out between the first and second posts where they aren't obnoxious. Those forums are all owned by the parent company of CF.

Only the guys at Ford Truck Enthusiasts are getting Daled. They are probably loving it though.

Internet Brands, Inc also has a couple of car sites with no ads in the threads.

I would imagine that CF is far and away the largest of the automotive forums owned by IB. You'd think if they wanted to practice screwing up an automotive forum, they wouldn't have started with one of the most popular ones on the internet. "GreenHybrid" or "Scion Life", anyone?

Shortly after I paid for a life time gold membership the announcement of the sale to IB came to light. Now this forum is slow and full of ads. I feel cheated and want my money back.

I read through this thread:
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1800594

And at the bottom is an add for helicoils...

I am very new to the forum, but just doesnt seem cricket to me. One of the posts recommends the advertiser. Makes me question the advise.

The forum is getting slower and slower yet there are quite a few less people posting. Doesn't make sense.
