Another new '64 on the Forum
Well, the jalopy hot rod now has a new garage mate. After about three years of looking for the right C2, Powerglide roadster, we took delivery of this little 64 today fulfilling a dream that both my wife and I have had for many years.
As with some of the other 64 posts lately, we were able to buy this car for what I felt was a very reasonable price compared to some of the other mid-years.
The car is a clean little driver car unrestored, and pretty well correct. I know some components have been changed (radiator, overflow tank, valve covers and hubcaps), but most major components are intact.
It has an interesting history in that it was sold new in the Birmingham, Alabama area and stayed in the general area since new until today. I have spoken to the last three owners and look forward to digging a little deeper into the history of the car.
The car is a very early 64 with serial number 347. According to the birthday calculator, it was built on Sept. 6, 1963. The engine is original to the car and has never been rebuilt. It shows less than 60,000 miles on the odometer now, which I believe is the true mileage.
It has a 327/300, Powerglide, AM/FM, Power Steering, and the Hardtop. According to one of the prior owners, the car was a hardtop-only car from the factory, but had the soft top added from a 64 parts car in the 1970s. It happened that he still had the original hardtop still hanging in his shop and he offered to sell it to me. The man that sold me the car agreed to drive about 80 miles to pick up the top and re-unite it with the car before shipping it what a great guy!
The car was painted sometime in the 1970s and shows its age now, but I love the patina. You can read the bonding seams thru the paint, and the lacquer is beginning to check in places, but it still looks very nice from a few feet away.
I apologize for the length of this post, but am very excited to be a C2 owner! I wanted to thank all of the Forum members that have helped me thru the process of looking for a car - many thanks for your advice and help!
Happy motoring .

Welcome to the "64" club. We have had ours for quite a few years and it has become a part of the family with all of the grandchildren thinking it should be theirs some day. Also have the 327/300 and it provides a fun ride and is a real attention getter. you'll enjoy this and so will Momma. Again congratulations.

I joined the gang of '64 Folks almost 3-weeks ago now, and am digging it more and more all the time. I looked for about 2-years pretty seriously for a Corvette that had a serious value factor to it, from a high dollar 1/~200 Nassau Blue '99 FRC to a screaming cheap numbers matching '74 project car, and then found the '64.
I'm sure you'll be welcomed as well as I have. Good choice.

'64 Vette
Hi Todd, I have had my '64 for about 10 weeks now , still getting use to driving it , much different than my '60 . I have one hub cap that is not shiney like the others , [must have been a replacement cap] I went out to Carlisle to buy a shiney one and found out some interesting facts, whether they are true or not I shall find out . Apparently there were complaints that the shiney hubs caps were too shiney [too much reflection] so GM put a paint on them to dull them down about mid production in '64 , so I didnt buy another hub cap I bought some buffing wheels and rouge to shine the stainless steel up after I remove the paint . I'm either going to put brake fluid or paint remover on the paint to remove it. [on that that one cap] .
P.S. my car was made Sept. 24th, '63 . Good luck with it - ED

Congatulations on your beautiful 64. I recently bought my 64 Daytona Blue Vert and really love it. My Vin ends with 7439, giving it a birthdate of approximately Dec 20, 1963. Can't beat a mid year Vette. Will post pics soon. Hope you have lots of fun.
