Question for Z110BT or DNX9140 owners
I'm about to order a new C6 and I am not ordering the factory nav system. I had an AVIC D3 in my C5 Z06 that was light years better than the factory nav in my BMW so I know that I will be able to get a better system by going aftermarket. When I had the AVIC D3 installed in my C5, I noticed an obvious decrease in sound quality from the factory speaker. The AVIC replaced another Pioneer HU and I know I had the correct adaptor for the Bose speakers as the previous unit worked fine, but after the AVIC install it was like I had no bass and the overall volume was much lower, regardless of what setting I had the AVIC on. I ended up correcting this by installing all new Polk Audio speakers with an amp and a sub, but I don't really want to go this route in my new C6 convertible.
So my question is, have any of you just replaced the HU with a Z110BT or DNX9140 and experienced any degredation in the sound quality or volume from the stock Bose speakers?
As a secondary question, if you did replace the door speakers but not add an amp, was the Z110BT or DNX9140 powerful enough to provide good sound?
Thanks for the help!

I replaced my full blown BLOSE NAVI in my C6 with a DNX-9140. The difference is beyond comprehension. Here is what I have:
DNX-914
JL HD900/5 Amp
JL Stealthbox
JL C5 625 with x-overs and tweeters
GTM-10 FM traffic antenna option
GMCO adapter
Like I said, the difference is remarkable! Bear in mind that I do not have steering wheel controls as my car is a late year 2006. Hope that helps.

C5 depended on the radios internal amp to power the speakers, all C6 have an external amp from the factory (both bose and non-bose), if you keep everything stock except the head unit the volume shouldn't change much at all in a C6.
Changing out just the 3.5" door twiddlers is a good upgrade if you're keeping the stock amp setup. Polk db351 or Boston Acoustic S35 are popular choices for about $50.
Check out this thread for the parts you'd need, but from what you said, get the GMAH24B (OS-2Bose) and GMAHCM if you want to keep onstar functional, or just the GMCO (C2R-GM24) if you want to disable onstar.
If you use an ipod a lot, check out the new interface on the Pioneer x920bt

You can buy the DNX9140 from aafes.com and save a few hundred dollars over MSRP, and they're an authorized retailer so you get the factory warranty. Just a little help from a fellow Boneman.
