Default Adjusting NPP valves to be just partially open

I did a search of this forum and on Google for info on how to install a stop collar of some kind on the NPP valve linkage so the valves can be adjusted to always be slightly open for a little better sound.

I pulled the fuse on the NPP, but that opens the valves fully, and it's too loud for me ... I just want the valves slightly open.

Anyone here know what people have used to accomplish this ... a photo would be even better.

Thank's

I've seen a picture of it somewhere, but I haven't found it yet.

I will probably buy that, but I would rather go to the hardware store and get the stuff I need to make my own (might cost me $5).

Sure wish i had a photo of what that guy is selling ... or what others here have made themselves.

Ron,

You can try using model airplane wheel collars :

AORoads ...

So, you have this installed. Can you be so kind as to post a real close-up photo of the collar installed on your NPP?

Did you buy the collars that the guy is selling for $25 + shipping ... or did you make your own?

Ron,

.
With a bolt a couple of large diameter washers you can hold them partly open. About 1/4" sounds good to me with no drone.

Here's what I did (temporairly) with a clamp and wingnut from my junk Drawer, works the opposite of the collars in that it sets the maximum sound, applying vaccum shuts it off. No vacuum connection necessary if you want to run this way all the time.

Those won't work without dissassembling the valves...

Ok ... a 'split collar' ... that's the ticket!

I wonder if Lowes or Home Depot has these in stock for the diameter acuator rod found on the NPP?

BTW ... anyone know what the actuator rod size is?

This is why I sell the kit (Theredlion.us link above is to my website.) It comes complete with the collars you need that fit the NPP actuator rods and the allen wrench to install them. Some folks like the chase of the parts as much as the results, others do not.

this is true. I have the kit. it works, and works very well. is adjustable (done it four times to get it quiet enough and loud enough at the same time), is cost effective imo, has an extra-long, strong allen wrench. and it works, as I said before. and time is money.

but if you enjoy HD and L., as the nascar chief would say, "have at it, boys!"

Paul ...

Any chance you could give us CF members a break on the shipping cost?

$7.50 shipping to Florida seems a little high for a couple of small collars and an allen wrench.

Thank's

I do hear this from time to time, particularly on my decal sets and I do understand. The problem is I ship everything via USPS Priority Mail. The reason for this is it allows me to insure and track the packages. Any other means of shipment is either more expensive (UPS or FedEX) or tossing a package in to a black hole (standard postal rates) and if it gets lost (or if I encounter a member that is not as honest and claims lack of receipt) I end up out the cost of the product and the shipping and my time having to replace them.

Default two small u-bolts

For less than $1 and including the 4 bnuts and four lock washers for the u-bolts; just installed them over the rods to hold flapper ~25% open when running ( sounds just about right to me). Adjusting is a simple case of loosening the nuts and sliding the u-bolt one way or another.

My question, is there any risk or possible damage by keeping the flapper always partially open???
