How Bad Is This? Or Is It?
#21
This is exactly true. They called me after I dropped off the car and went out with my wife. 2 hours after it was dropped off all they did was the oil change and a recall software issue. Then they call me and say “ you really need to do these things also”. I learned a lesson. You really need to do the homework yourself. Before. Very much appreciate the feedback. This has always been a fantastic community of generous owners. Thanks.
Also, highly recommend you DIY or find an independent Corvette specialist mechanic/shop who will do the job better and for less cost.

Also, just to make sure you know, you will need to have you DCT fluid changed when the car is 3 years old. And it isn't cheap so you may want to shop around before taking your car in. And it isn't required to replace the DCT filter at the same time, it is up to you. And hopefully you had your DCT filter changed between 7000-8000 miles.

^ Sounds like it, unfortunately. At least now you know to check the maintenance schedule and call out any dealer that tries to sell you unneeded work.

Brake fluid flush, yeah, so did they actually purge all the lines and replace all the fluid, or did they just bleed them a little and top it off???
Unless you are tracking the car or submerged it in water, the DOT4 fluid you already have should have been good to go and didn't need replacement.

My rule when a dealer calls back and says "You need x,y&z" is to always say NO THANKS unless I'm sure the work is due (in which case I would have scheduled it myself). You can always take it back in if you discover that they are correct.

My dealer oil change is $229. They claim its because they use Mobile 1. I buy the supercar Mobile 1 off Amazon at about 80 bucks for 8 qts. My filter is about six bucks. I then take it to my local muffler shop that I’ve used for years and they do the whole change for $35 labor. I don’t do it myself, I’ve did it myself for years, but I don’t like messing around with Jacks, jackstands and disposing of the old oil. I’m retired. I’m done with that crap. $35 I think it’s very reasonable for their lift, their labor, and their disposal.

Curious your thoughts. Wondering if I got hosed...
So, got around to oil change #3...2.8years old--11,400 miles. The inflation factor here sequentially: 1.) $0 (comp)...2.) $135... 3.) $183
$183 Oil Change seems high to me bit maybe I'm naive ($75 for labor)?
So, the oil change price was a bit of surprise...but also told I needed

Brake Fluid Flush---$149.07 and
Cabin Air Filter (filter+climate control kit) $130
Engine Air filter $129.82.
Yes, its a Chevy Dealer.
Necessary? If so--how much overcharge?TIA
Out the door: $650.29

My car '20 with 13,000 miles
Did my own cabin air filter at 13,000 miles with a NAPA at $45: 15 minutes labor
just did the Attack Blue air filter because I wanted to; $145 and took my time 2 hours. Charge by your dealer looks low wonder if they did it as no labor charge noted
oil change is in the ballpark if Mobil 1

The air filter & cabin filter are easy to do jobs that almost anyone could perform, I doubt that at 12k miles your brake fluid needs replaced

I guarantee that the dealer did not say that "you needed" these services but rather said "they recommend." The two terms have a distinct legal difference since a dealer can legitimately [although sleazy] "recommend" services that are not yet due. They can not tell you, unless there is some sort of breakdown or defect, that you need for example new brake fluid years and miles ahead of schedule. As others have said, stick to the maintenance schedule to avoid paying for unnecessary or premature services.
But there’s a kind of middle road where—you’re already there waiting and they say “you REALLY should get this done”.
As advised all over the place here—knowing the true schedule is forewarned, forearmed…

I don't doubt that the service advisor told the OP the services were "needed". Just sit for 5 min in any dealership service dept and you'll hear plenty of people (often women) be told unnecessary services are needed.

Porsche dealers have no problem charging $700-$900 for just the oil change. $183 for an oil/filter/labor really isn't the end of the world not out of line by any means. Call around to find cheaper if that # is a hardship or just pay the dealer and go enjoy life. Makes me think of the guys who buy $100,000(or much more) sports cars and then sit in line for 20 minutes to a save a few bucks on Costco "top tier" gas.

I had my oil changed by a Chevy dealer last week for $123.
Your car should not need the brake fluid changed at 11,400 miles. The $149 cost is a bad price for the change though.
If you have not changed the cabin air filter in 2.8 years it should be changed. A filter at an auto parts store runs around $35. It is not difficult to replace. I don't know what the "climate control kit" is.
I have not price engine air filters for a C8, but based on what they cost for the previous generations that would be a very good price. However, your maintenance menu in your car should tell you the current status of your engine air filter. I would check that before changing the filter.

I paid $188 for an oil change at my dealer on my 2021. My wife took her GMC Denali in for an oil change two days ago to the same dealer and it needs wiper blades. The Service Advisor told her not to have them change the blades out because of the cost - much cheaper to go to a parts store and let me do it.
I took my 2024 Lexus in for its six month check up yesterday. It has a recall on it to update the computer because one of the cameras isn’t working as it should. The Service Advisor told me right up front that if the update failed it would cancel some safety features and the computer would have to be replaced. They didn’t have any computers in stock. We agreed that I would wait until I go back for my oil change in six months to update the computer.
Not all dealers are bad and not all dealers fleece people.

I agree but the challenge is knowing which dealers are the bad ones without finding out by first-hand experience. According to Chevrolet you are supposed to trust your dealer but what they don't say it is your job to find out which ones you can trust. They have the data from dealer surveys. They could provide dealer ratings on their website but instead they expect you to use social media, etc. to find out.
The Dealership network is hit or miss to say the least. General Motors "protects" the dealer network by making it difficult to discover the weak links until you learn tough personal lessons. Dealer survey data would be extremely helpful. For GM, it's clear this hit or miss distribution system is prioritized over the customer.
