C7 Grandsport vs C8 Z51
I have a 2019 gs and wanted to hear your thoughts about these 2 cars. I’m curious how you guys compare their speed, handling, daily driving, track times, etc. I go back and forth on each car with pros and cons to each. In a perfect world gm would make a c8 grand sport but sadly I don’t think they ever will. Feel free to discuss anything about these cars or anything related to them. I want to hear your opinions and thoughts. Thanks.

I have never driven a C8 Z51 (or for that matter any C8) so I can’t comment on the driving aspects of each car. However, in the subjective category of looks between the two cars, my preference is for the C7 Grand Sport.

100 percent agree I usually am not a fan when a new model comes out. It usually grows on me and I come around. Not with the C8 especially the stingray. The Z06 looks better but still not a fan and the price fughetaboutit. For me I will stick with my GS love it every time I look at it and drive it.

I test drove two C8's (non-Z51) and I found a noticeable improvement in both handling and acceleration over my Z51. I went through some twisty roads and enjoyed the ride.
I am going to take a test drive in an HTC and see how the hard top compares to the C7 Roadster. I also want to check out the blind spots.

for us guys near 60 who grew up driving long nosed V8 front engine cars like 70-80's camaros, trans ams and corvettes there is a very familiar feeling in the C7,
the C8 (mine is a 2023 coupe) can outperform my C7 (2015 Z51 mag ride) in nearly every way, its quicker 0-60 by a dash, a little quicker inthe 1/4 mile but it really outruns the C7 on the track, as any Ron Fellows student or person who has tracked the C8 can tell you, this C8 car is an amazing track performer, amazing!
But the C7 isnt going anywhere, it is just like your favorite pair of jeans, or my favorite chair, it FEELS great driving this car, its more of a holigan than the C8, tossing the *** end out, smoking those 20's, yeah, she aint going nowhere

C8 is brake by wire if you care.
C8 is going to be a much more comfortable all around street car. Really depends on your priorities.

Havent driven a C8 but Im sure it offers many pros over the C7 since it is newer after all. But when it comes to straight line speed from a roll…
I’ve seen videos on YouTube showing roll races of a base C7 against a base C8 and they are literally neck and neck.
From a roll, the mid-engine traction advantage of the C8 isn’t as apparent. From a dig, forget it. The C8 can hit 60 even as low as a C7 Zr1 can

Even though looking at it I felt like throwing up I drove a few, greatly disappointed and underwhelmed.. seemed like a nice daily driver or grocery shopping, but I already have an SUV. My C7 drop dead gorgeous and is an absolute thrill to drive or just stare at.. No Thanks I prefer exciting driving experience.. C8 does not deliver

I'd think that lap 'fun' would be more important. I would think mid-front vs. mid-rear engine placement is going to make a big difference in how they handle at the limits, and whichever is more 'fun' is going to be subjective.
Not that I've driven a C8 nor been on a track with a car.

Lets just say the C7 GS is 100% better looking than the C8 Z51 and leave it at that.

Were my 2019 a GS automatic transmission, I'd consider the C8.
If you're looking to compare performance between the two? I'm quite certain the C8 would be the outperformer of the two.

I tested 2 C8's in the past month. I have a '17GS Convertible, with 3LT and 7MT. Initial impressions was the 3LT interior on the C7 felt more upscale than the 3LT on the C8. That might have been because we were familiar with our Vette and the C8 is so different. We felt the leather quality was not as high, and I was really surprised. As for the drive itself, I was on city streets, so not able to compare at speed. My guess is on track the C8 would be noticeably different in a good way. The visibility in the C8 is terrible, and the rear view screen in place of a mirror to compensate would take me A TON of time to get used to, it felt weird. My wife likes the looks of the C7 better and felt it was more Corvette than the C8. I agree the C8 looks incredible, but it will take a generation for me to look at it and immediately say Corvette. Finally, the killer for me is no manual transmission. Although the performance is there, it made the car feel a bit numb.
Having said all of this, I want a C8, but will always keep my C7. I think the C8 will be a killer track car. If they add a 7MT to it I would order one today.
