Since the trans/diff is out, I started cleaning it. I'm surprised at how clean it is after 108k miles. There's a long of gunk and sand and dirt caked on it, but it seems as though the whole thing has been relatively leak free because the garbage is just scraping right off, not a whole lot of that nasty "greasy" feel to it. The top where the shifter detent lives is a bit gross though. Might pop that off once everything is clean and re-seal it. If I remember right there's no gasket, just RTV.

Default Drove it for road trip

Drove it approx 600miles down to France via ferry and German and French high ways. I managed to push it softly to 200km/h twice for very short moment, otherwise between 90-100miles/h… weather was wet sometimes, not the best for top speed test…and wifey thought it was too fast. 😬
convertible start to be extremely noisy at 100mh…😵‍💫

tomorrow we continue with a short stretch…

Default Tried my luck with some Intake Manifold porting today

About a year ago I purchased an old school Fast 78 Intake Manifold off of @Davcruz here on the FS forums. My build plans for the car do not warrant the need for a 90mm setup, so I was thrilled with this deal. I couldn't put it to use right away as my car was new to me at the time and I had many reasons not to tear into it at the time. Well I'm finally getting around to putting it to use and I'm going to heed the advice of the PO that maybe I should reseal this 20 year old intake lol. But of course, it's no fun tearing it down to the bones, and not taking the opportunity to make some improvements along the way.

Nice and stock

Davcruz - You might want a catch can - lol

Those seals are very flat. Likely a great idea to reseal this manifold.

Need to sand down that ridge - in the quest for slightly more power!

Starts to vaporize quickly with a die grinder and a sanding cartridge roll

Pretty much done. Just needs smoothing. Takes about 5 minutes per port.

I can't help to wonder why the decision was made to have that ridge in the first place. Did it concentrate the flow of air to the center of the port?

A professional, I am not, but believe it or not this feels smooth to the touch

if it makes you feel better, i drove a stretch of the autobahn at 240kmh in a VW Jetta on the way to Munich. solid as a rock. your C5 (assuming maintained normally) should be fine.

i've set the cruise control on my C5 faster than that & wasn't worried.
