Default Paint run

I just bought a car that has been repainted with base coat clear coat. The paint job is really good except for a run in one place.

Is there any way to determine whether the run is in the clear or the base? If it's the clear I think I can fix it.

If you lightly sand the run with say like 1000 wet and the residue is white its the clear coat. If its body color the run is in the base coat.

Right. But if the run is under the clear coat, I won't get to the run until the clear coat is sanded through.

This is what I want to avoid. I'm thinking that I should leave it alone since it's not that noticeable.

Sounds like a plan.
But maybe take to a body shop you trust and see what they think?

After closely looking at the run, I'm pretty sure the run is in the basecoat. I can run my fingers across the area and it feels perfectly smooth. That seems to me that the clearcoat is smooth and the run is under the clearcoat.
That being the case, I think that trying to repair this small run would be more effort than it's worth.
