Default C7 - Black Hole in Instrument Cluster Display

Yesterday, I picked up my 2016 C7 from the shop after having an AC compressor replaced. When I started the car, I noticed a black (dead) spot in my instrument cluster display.
Has anyone experienced this issue? I'm guessing I need a new instrument cluster, but I wanted to know if anyone had a cause/fix before I R&R the cluster.
My original thread was in sw regional but I posted here to reach more folks.
Thanks for any help.

As someone who has experience with lcd and OLED repair this is odd that it's so perfectly round.

Nobody stuck a black stick-on dot on the lens as a joke, did they?

It definitely looks as though there is light being reflected onto the surface of the display. That lead me to believe that the "dot" is in or on the lens covering the display.

It's hard to see the surface in the images but there is no material on the surface of the display, or the lens.
I'll post an image of the display off. it looks like something burned out behind the display surface.

One I've never seen before. Hardly seems like a digital issue. Also, yard to imagine how it could be related to the repair just completed. Hmmm...

I believe if you troubleshoot it properly you will find that the digitizer chip for the display has a intermittent defect.

My best guess.

Not a easy fix for the DIY wrench.

Thanks for all the input. You can see from the images that the backlight is affected by the black spot as well. I was hoping that it was an electrical glitch, but disconnecting the battery and resetting had no effect.
Even with the display off you can see what looks like a "burn" shadow where the black appears when the display is lit.
Once I realized there is a physical anomaly on the display itself, it became obvious that I need to replace the display. I've seen C7 displays on eBay for around $300.
I've seen some C7 dash removal videos, but not specific to display R&R. Can anyone point me to a better resource?
Thanks for any help.

Default Black Dot on cluster display

I seen one person who asked this question about why there is a black Dot on their instrument cluster. I have a 2014 C7 z51 with 26,000 MI and it just appeared out of nowhere when I was connecting my Bluetooth cell phone. Rick Hendricks does not want to touch my car and I'm trying to figure out what it is. Does it need a update or a new cluster and by the way they discontinued the 2014 display clusters.. someone please help this looks very very rare. I can't find but maybe two people on YouTube that has this.

I have the exact same thing going on with my 2014 C7 Z51 with 26,000 miles on it. Did you figure it out by chance because I need some help and Rick Hendrick Chevrolet will not touch it. They have discontinued the 2014 display cluster from GM. PS my black dot is in the same spot. How weird is that

Tim,
Unfortunately, I have determined that it is a physical issue with the display itself. I have been looking on eBay and other sites for a salvage C7 (2016) display as replacing the display appears to be the only remedy.
With regards to cause, the only thing I can think of is when they replaced my battery, there could have been some kind of electrical surge - since the anomaly appears to be a "burn" there must have been some overload to create the problem.

That is a strange thing to happen. So if the 2014 display is discontinued, what about newer displays being compatible?

Good question Jack. Mine's a 2016 and I've seen a bunch of salvage displays on eBay so I haven't looked for new units. I am not sure which years are compatible with 2016 - I need to research.
I haven't pulled the trigger on buying one as I am not really looking forward to pulling apart the dash.
I probably need to before I can't get the correct replacement.
