Default Shock upgrade

I have a 06 Z06 with 14k miles. I don’t fore see me ever tracking the car but I do some spirited drives on back winding roads and occasionally run it into triple digits when it’s safe from a rolling acceleration. I was thinking about upgrading the stock OEM shocks to DRM shocks (regular DRM shocks $575 vs Coil Overs $1850.00 plus installation.) I was told by one reputable speed shop that built the engine not to waste my money on regular DRMs unless I go to Coil Overs and only if I was planning on tracking the car. They felt like the kinda of driving I did the factory shocks would be sufficient. This isn’t my first C6 Z06. The suspension feels pretty planted most of the time. I’m running Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 4 ZP Run Flat tires with about 1000 miles on them. I personally would prefer regular Michelin Pilots non run flats but the previous owner had just installed the run flats. With about 575 RWHP it’s got plenty of power/torque for me. Your thoughts on leaving the suspension alone or possibly upgrading down the road for my needs and safety. Thanks

Best $600 I spent for ride quality and helped to eliminate the awful axle tramp I had at WOT from a roll. I however do not track my car so I don’t need coil overs.

I was on the fence about the DRM shocks and was a little hesitant at first. If you research this forum, you’ll find there is a ton of info on the DRM shocks. I don’t remember ever coming across a negative review.

I emailed DRM some questions and got a phone call from Randy Rippie. Super nice guy and knowleable.

Installing those shocks on my car was one of the best upgrades I’ve done, and I would do it again. Install them and if you don’t like them I’m sure you could sell them in a heartbeat on this forum.

Thanks for the replies, I’ve read several other comments on the DRM shocks on the forum and like you said all pretty positive comments. I think 🤔 I’m leaning towards just going with the shocks not the coil overs for my driving experience. It’s just a sense of added security that’s well worth the investment! Thank you, happy and safe motoring

When I added the DRM shocks I also upgraded the shock bushing to poly bushings. It's not much more money and you already have the shock off so why not just upgrade the bush's while you are at it. JMO.

I see where DRM Bilsteins come in three variations: HD Shocks or Sport Shocks or Valved Bilstein Shocks. I assume the way to go would be with the Valved Bilstein Shocks?

You will not regret going to the DRM Bilstein shocks. I am on my second set only because I thought I might have worn out my original set after more than 10 years. In my experience, you will be happy with the DRM Bilsteins for street and track HPDE use, and you will only long for something like a triple acting, custom valved Bilstein or Penske shock if you are a serious racer.

those look like off-the-shelf B8s...any idea what's special about them?

Definitely recommend the DRM valved Bilstein shocks for what you said your driving style was. I would also HIGHLY recommend changing your sway bar end links regardless of your mileage. Do both and get a proper alignment.
