New to me 93 Vette
Hi, I am Jerry, just want to add my 93 Coupe to the forum. I have had the car almost a year. The Vette had a few issues when I bought it. The worst one was the steering coupler to the rack pinch bolt being loose and providing about two inches of free play in the steering wheel. The previous owner had the car about 18 months and had the local Chevy dealer check it over. I found the steering issue, worn shocks and a missing lower rear shock nut. Hard to believe they could not find these issues as the owner was aware and even recommend I go to the Chevy dealer. To be fair, I first thought that it was inner tie rods or the rag joint was just deteriorated. The plastic cover over the rag joint had to be removed to get to the pinch bolt and at first the bolt seemed tight and then it turned like a half a turn. No parts required repair.
When I came to test drive the car it had a high idle and the car smelled rich. Once I got the car home it was time to do some research on this forum. I discovered that the aftermarket coolant sensor in the water pump was bad. The computer was seeing below freezing temp (digital cluster read I think 146 at all times) and was stuck in open loop with the radiator fans on continuous. Installed a AC Delco coolant sensor in the water pump for $28 and corrected that issue. Cleared codes and no more codes.
So far I have replaced a cheap aftermarket drivers window regulator with a used one off a eBay salvage yard. Completely transformed the ride like a wagon Corvette stereotype (I have the base model FE3 suspension) when I replaced the junk Gabriel shocks with black stock replacement AC Delco shocks from Rockauto. They are very inexpensive and car rides damn near like a Cadilac. Car has about 85,000 miles now and is an awesome cruiser.
Next thing on the to do list is coolant flush and replace the rear spring bushings. The rest of the suspension seems solid and I am very happy to have added a Corvette to my garage.
