Keyless start - boon or pain?
#3
It is a convenience, but I'd rather have a key. Having to carry bulky fobs is a nuisance, particularly if you carry the keys to several vehicles as I normally do. Having to worry about electrical problems and gremlins preventing entry or starting is a nuisance. Having to worry about dead batteries is more than a nuisance. Etc. Keys are simple, compact, and any semi-skilled hardware store clerk can make you a spare for 50 cents.

Mine had a warning tag around the gear shift. After a few days of having it become a habit, I removed it. Had the no key feature in the Benz. It was called keyless Go and I appreciate still having it.

I have no problem putting in reverse when shutting it off. The problem I have is when I get in and start up remembering that it's in reverse. I'm so used to starting up and shifting into reverse to back out of the garage that now I'm always shifting form reverse to first and trying to back out. But I love the keyless ignition.

The keyless entry and start is a huge convenience.
doesn't take long to get used to that or the "reverse at exit" trick, even if you're an old dog. Once this gets to the mainstream, keys are a thing of the past. No one would want a key after they've tried this for a while.

only took me one time with the car beeping at me
because I'd forgotten to leave it reverse to get me
to remember to put it in reverse.
The thing I'm a little more concerned with is the
keyless unlocking. I admit I haven't played around
with various scenarios to tell you precisely what
bothers me but something is lurking.
Here's a question for all you RF engineers: how does
the car know the key fob is inside the car?

mine won't let me open the door unless it's in rev. You can over ride that by hitting the unlock button but by that time I believe one knows something is amiss.

Inside to outside of the car makes a difference. When outside the frame of the car would weaken signal before it gets in and inside the car is probably very clear. I don't know how else it would know. Just my idea.
