Help! Lateral Accelerometer
This is my first post on vette forum, so take it easy on me!..I was fixing my rocking seat problem (see "rocking seat" post") and when i got to the passenger seat i noticed a hump in the carpet where the lateral accelerometer is supposed to be (per my 98 service manual). there wasn't anything there...did they move the sensor to a different place or did i just buy a vette that someone has screwed with?? i have a 98 Y body (removeable hard top). there weren't any threaded posts to bolt a sensor down to under the hump!?! i haven't pulled the carpet completely up to see if the studs were removed yet, but i did see some adhesive there. any help is appreciated....

yes, it has active handling... i have dtc codes for that also..just a few.. seems like more would be tripped if the sensor was missing. TCS codes 1255 & 1281 are tripped.

Do you have a seperate switch on the console next to your traction control button?

IIRC, Active Handling was introduced during the '98 model year. Inside your glove box there should be sticker which lists all the RPO codes for all the options on the car at the delivery. For model year '98 Active Handling was RPO JL4

The selector switch on the console (or lack thereof) is for the RTD (Real Time Damping) system and carries RPO code F45.The AH system (JL4) uses three sensors: lateral accelerometer (under the pass. side seat), a yaw rate sensor (behind the IP trim panel and underneath the HVAC control module) and a steering wheel position sensor (inside the steering column). No JL4, no AH.
