Z51 Rod End Grease DYI (pics)
No big effort here, but if you have the Z51 you should know about this. The manual does not show a location so it took a few minutes to find it.
From Manual:
"Vehicles with the Z51 performance package have
greaseable outer ends on both of the rear toe-links.
Under normal use, lubrication should be performed as
described in the maintenance schedule. See Scheduled
Maintenance on page 6-4 and Recommended Fluids and Lubricants on page 6-12. If you use the vehicle for racing, lubrication should be performed at the end of each racing day. "
Went to Pepboys and picked up a gun and a tube of Mobil 1 synthetic grease. You can get guns from $9.99 - $34 (I got the $34) the flex hose is a must unless you want to pull the tire.
They did a good job hiding it. It's actually tucked behind the rotor in the rear. It's not necessary to remove the tire if you have a gun with a flex hose.
Once the gun was primed I gave it 5 pumps

Excellent Ed! Nice! Thanks for sharing.
Ironically I just bought that same exact grease gun 3 days ago specifically for this purpose... nice unit. The local Pep Boys here did not have a good selection so I got my gun online... same price. Seems to be one of the best around for this purpose.
Actually, the gun I got is slightly different, but looks identical:
Lincoln Industries Pistol Grip Grease Gun, Model# 1134
Lincoln grease gun from Northern Tool

Ed, "You Da Man"
Once again Ed tells us the things we need and want to "Know". He not only tells you how to do it, he tells you where to get the "Stuff". I just ordered and rec'd a set of splash guards from him. The directions are crystal clear.

I would think the reason they recommend grease after track use it due to extreme load on the rod end. I could be wrong

Pictures are indeed worth it!
Hey Ed!
Thanks for the great post. I tried to get some pictures on your last post relating to the Mobil 1 grease that was in the Tech section but there were no takers.
Is that the gun that needs to be attached to an air compressor, or just hand pumped? Also, is there a specific procedure or amount that needs to be applied into the toe link?
Thanks again for the timely and informative post!
Best Regards,
Jonathan

With the same advice from you and Pipe I'll take it easy on my first application. The last thing I need is to louse up my rear!
Thanks a bunch - Jonathan

Why? when the wheel is on you see nothing, besides most of the rust you see is on the hub.
