Default New mod for today...very significant!>>

OK..not really but this is one of those things that keeps bugging you. I like keeping my hood up in the garage (always tinkering with the engine bay) and in meets/concours hood being up and opening doors the engine bay light is always on...yes there is that 20 minute cycle, but everytime you open a door etc the cycle starts over..well anyway between the idea of this really hot bulb on (have that light on and put your hand next to it) or draining the battery I came up with a solution so here is my significant mod..the engine bay light switch .

Went to RadioShack and purchased a rocker switch (part number 275-693) and have on hand the connectors>>

Remove engine hood liner...very easy (also these tools make removing trim pieces etc easy>>>>
EastWood

Light fixture exposed>>>

This shows where to install the switch>>>

Note: the switch is slightly off center of the light opening so as to avoid the light fixture connectors,

Anyway..with tongue-in-check this obviously not a earth shaking mod but does solve the problem of the light being on in 20 minute cycles

What a great mod,and very nicely executed!I have been chewing over this very problem, trying to figure out how to do it and maintain an O.E. appearance, and you have accomplished it simply and professionally. That pesky light will trip a Priorty Start device, and that means hatch access to open the door to punch the cigarette lighter to reindex the windows and reset the clock,etc-every time you spend more than a few moments under the hood. This will eliminate all that!

Wow...thanks all...I thought maybe it was **** me and that light

Few other details for the FAQ...
-the switch requires a 3/4" whole in the liner. Liner is very fiberous so I found either using a razor knife and a 1/4" drill bit and 'route out' works...make the hole smaller (5/8") than needed thus push swithc thru and it snugs up nicely. Then install the retaining nut.

-After stripping black electrical tape off of the two wires leading to the light cut the red wire at the mid point between the light fixture plug and the plastic mount holding the wire bundle to the hood (look at pic #2 and you will see this mount.

that's it...
