DYI Splash Guards (pics)
Made these from a generic set sold at auto barn for $5.99 pr. I made mine for a few reasons. I wanted to control the coverage and save $45 ($49 + shipping as compared to $14). Someone mentioned in a prior post the material they sell for motocross bikes used for the number plate, I could not find that but would have used it instead if I could. I also felt the ones sold go up to far on the front set and wanted to trim that back. I included a template you can print on legal size paper, it may take a few times to get the measurements to match, but once they do it should be the same size. The holes are 3/8", I cut it on a band saw and sanded the edges clean. They use the stock fasteners to mount. Prior to mounting I installed two strips of black electrical tape on the car so the guards do not chafe the paint. Once the guard is on you can not see the tape. The back will be next and I may also trim the fronts further to contour with the body. I would have rather done nothing but the paint at 3000K is showing sandblasting
Mounts using the bottom three stock fastners
Blends in with the tire and extends to cover the full tread
Shown against white so you can see them, I may trim further to contour with the bottom of the fender.
Right click and save, print on legal paper

I have had many Vettes and this one if the worst with regards to sandblasted inner fenders. I think the GM did a crappy job actually (and I support GM). Most every other car has a fender liner but we get painted inner fenders. Might look good at a car show but it doesn't work in the real world. Don't know what they were thinking. In the next couple of years you are going to see 05 Vettes on the road looking like sand blasted crap around all fenders and even the side panels. Those that use the plastic covering will be more protected but so is a couch with plastic on it.

I don't think that painting would be the best approach for this type of guard. By keeping them black they would be almost invisible because they are so thin. By cutting them down or contouring you make reduce their effectivness. IMHO, making the guards as unobtrusive as possible while keeping their purpose a top priority is the way to go. I like what you did!
