Default Goodyear Eagle GTII tires discontinued in 15" sizes

FYI: Goodyear Eagle GTII tires in the 15" sizes have recently been
discontinued. Anyone interested in getting another set or replacing
part of a set should act soon. At least locally, I called the Goodyear
factory store and an independent dealer and found that they had
8 available in size 255/60/15.
They must order from the same warehouse. Purchased
a set at $120 each which was a closeout price.

that is too bad!!! tire rack also has them on a close out. glad i got 4 new shoes last year for my car.
I guess I will need to buy one more to keep as a spare in case I have a flat and that way I will not have to buy all four to have a matching set.

That's terrible!!

I've been using them for over 8 years. The set I got may last 2 more years. Bummer.

The local Goodyear factory store thought they were not going to
replace it and are getting out of the slower moving sizes.
Checked the Goodyear web site and keying in 15" nothing comes up.
Saw a reproduction being offered by someone of the original
Eagle GT tire which maybe what Goodyear is doing. That is
offering companies the rights to manufacture reproductions.

I heard that was going to happen about a year ago. That's the main reason I switched to 18" wheels when I needed new tires.

Maybe BF Goodrich TA Radials are available in the correct 15" size. I've got a set of those in 14" on my 69 Mustang. They don't compare to the Firestone Firehawks I had on it previously or the Goodyear GTIIs on my 69 Vette, but they may be the only choice short of the specialty tire suppliers. BTW, the Firehawks may also be available, but they don't have "Firestone" on the white letter versions anymore (maybe that nasty mess with Ford over Explorer tires or something caused that) and I wanted a manufacturer's name on the tires for both cars to keep them vintage correct in appearance. I just replaced the Goodyear GTs on my Vette with the GTIIs a year ago, so I don't think I'll be facing a choice in the near future, but I might consider a spare purchase.

I was going to wait till April to buy a set of GT2'S but I may have to move sooner, the problem is everytime I see reviews the Firestones and Goodrich always place higher then the Goodyears. They supposedly suck in the rain, have some noise and only last about 20000 miles. Does anyone have any real experience in the rain w/ these and do they compete w/ the Firestones??

And yet another reason to think about upgrading my 73 to 17 inch rims.

I have Cooper Cobras on one vette, and some unknown brand on the other.

That is crap! The GTII's are the best tires for our cars and correct for many years. Coker or someone else should pick them and continue making them. I dont want to put 16 or 17 wheels on my car just so I can buy tires. This is very disappointing.

The only drawback to the BF Goodrich TA is that they are only S rated, so any speeds over 110 mph could get costly.

A real sad statement from a tire that made its mark in the world by being the street radial that you could race on and win, being the sponsor and tires of John Greenwood's Corvettes in the early '70s.

It's a business decision...I understand that, no matter how much I dislike it. A company doesn't want to waste resources on slow moving products, it's not cost effective. It's kind of like the automotive equivalent of continuing to make buggy whips when no one is using buggies any more (outside of the Amish...and we're the Amish in this case).

Eventually more and more of the tires our cars use will be provided by specialty suppliers like Coker and Diamondback, at retail prices set to make sure making and selling them is worthwhile. It's a free market and the market speaks.

Correct, there recently was an extensive article in Corvette Enthusiast, I think (just before the magazine crashed), about Coker taking up production of those tires.

With respect to the S speed rating. You might want to go to Youtube and see the clip where they are doing the actual test to determine speed rating. It is in my view an absolutely horrific test almost squashing the tire completely flat running it at speed and more. In legal terms an S rating might be the low 100's for legal reasons but for myself I'd be temped to consider straight line speed after watching the test on a new S rated tire looks like it would be good for way higher speeds than the rating which looks to me to be a really abusive test.

I doubt I'd put an S rated tire on a car that could do 205 mph but for one that could hit 140 in the straights, if it was reasonably new and properly inflated it sure looked to me from the test that it would be a reasonable bet to use.

Does anyone else have experience with the test ratings and the method or wisdom to bring to bear on what the "range" of safety is around the ratings for a tire in the real world not the legal rated world? I didn't save the youtube clip but it's there if you want to see it.

I guess I should count myself VERY lucky as when I bought my 82 last Nov. the previous owner gave me 4 new unmounted GTII's with the sale.
I was gonna try & sell them & put 17' wheels on the car, but now, I might just stay with 15", get some nice 15" wheels, (I hate the stock wheels) & keep it "somewhat" original looking.
