Just curious,,,,you get 5 years of coverage on powertrain...so if you have trans problems or motor problems you are covered....BUT does fixing those problems involve things that need to be done thats not covered?? Do items come up that would only be covered in the 3 year part???

Engine & transmission are covered for 5 years or 60k miles, whichever comes first. Items are either covered or not covered, there is no partial coverage for a repair. With that said, if things are outside of warranty coverage, GM can "goodwill" a repair (Honda & Jeep both have for me as well), or cut you a break on the costs to repair (partially at the dealers discretion). It pays to have a good relationship with your service advisor; I've learned all sorts of beneficial things by mailing gift cards for Christmas.

You may want to download and read a copy of the actual Warranty Manual. It gives lots of detail. Look for something that says more or less " replacement of a non-covered part is covered it cause by replacement of a covered part" . I could not find anything like that in the Warranty Manual. The Platinum Protection Plan has these words (you can download and read that too): "If a Covered Part causes damage to a non-covered part or component, the repair or replacement costs associated with the non-covered part or component are covered under the Platinum Plan." I do not know if that would cover a non-covered component that was not damaged but still has to be replaced as part of the replacement for a covered part.

I'm not sure what you are considering; I too, recommend you actually read the warranty... maybe with your attorney?

I was just trying to decide if I wanted the extended warranty...which would cover all...
So if my trany went out within the 5 years and millage was not an issue why get the extended warranty..I would think that the motor and tranny is the most expensive thing to replace?

Here is an example of exclusions from the factory powertrain warrant. In the warranty manual. I do not know if replacement of these items would be included if needed as a result of a covered transmission component.

I bought the extended warranty from Dennis Fitchner at Laurel Chevrolet. When discussing the details he told me the DCT was $27,000 to replace out the door. I’m more concerned about all of electronics on this car. I bought an extended warranty from Dennis for my 2015 C7 and used it one month after my GM warranty expired.

i have always planned to get the extened warranty . Just seeing if I should wait till the 5 y ear mark since the powertrain is a major item and its covered for 5 years.....But I guess I should get it anyway just to be sure all is covered..Thanks for all the imputs

Things like panel alignment and squeaks and rattles introduced while disassembling half your car will be quite difficult to pinpoint the cause of once the 3 year BtoB is past.

You MUST purchase GM's GMPP one month prior to the 3yr/36K mile factory B2B expiring.

I waited til near the end of the expiration of the 3/36 B2B, and then purchased the 8 year Platinum Protection Plan. After the B2B expires, there are only certain dealers that can/will sell the Platinum Protection Plan and even then the cost goes way up (statement based on other forum posts).

I plan on getting Ally..I had them on my c7 and was very happy with the price and when I canceled it when I traded in my c7 I got refunded all but $300.I had it for over a year or so...
