Default Tires

Anyone running the Michelin AS 4 ? Thoughts? Currently have the Nitto 555 G2. Not much choice out there anymore.

When I put C6 Z06 calipers/rotors on my 91 Z, I also had to put the Z06 size wheels and tires on it to clear the calipers. Much better selection of tires.

I would certainly be interested to hear what new tire choice you make or others have made recently. New to me 91 Z arriving soon and it will need tires. Seems options are very limited especially in Canada.

I didn't realize the AS 4 were in stock ZR-1 sizes ...

I plan on putting AS 4 on my C7 because everyone I speak with really likes them (and I want to drive when it's cold outside also which I can't do with the Pilot Super Sports )

After reviewing what is available and our in the mountains location, I just ordered the Sport AS4’s from Costco in Correct sizes for the Z at just under $1700 Cdn. All in. If they are ok for the C8 ! Nitto NT555 G2 a close second a hair more expensive which did not affect decision as much as some fellow owner feedback. The only other competitor locally available was the Toyo Extenza, similar price point given Costco sale pricing. Both the Toyo and Nitto have W speed ratings while the Michelin has a Y a definite plus for the Michelin. Never thought one would be purchasing all season tires for a 90’s supercar at Costco, and be excited about it, yet here we are! Will post feedback when we receive the car etc…

This discussion might help provide a bit of insight to make an informed decision:

I posted toward the end of the thread above on the zr1.net forums. Here's another one, as well, I posted a picture of my car with these tires on it. They're great tires. My main critique is that I wish they were more aggressive, but I get that they are all-season tires, so it is what it is. Mine sits a lot and I'd read a lot about Nittos flat-spotting from sitting. But the Nittos look a little tougher, IMO. Either way, I'll hit the time longevity before I ever hit mileage with this one.

Here's the picture I posted on that forum here, so it's a little easier to see if you're not a member on the zr1.net site.

Also a consideration would be Mickey Thompsons. Summit Auto has them in 275/40/17 and 315/35/17 in correct ZR-1 sizes. Check them out... I like the looks of them and they seem to be a little wider than the Michelins from pictures I've seen of them on ZR-1s. Had I seen them, I might've gone that route, but I'm fine with the Michelins. At least they're safe to drive on (now my windshield is another story...).

That’s a great looking car! Lots of relative info on the Michelins thanks for that. They don’t look like race car tires but not everything is as it appears. “Hey kids look at grampa in that old C4 corvette still has his winter tires on!” The mickeys look pretty nice, also W rated. I better go sign up on the Net too.

Thank you! Yeah I wish the older BFG KDW and even a reproduction GSC was available, but, with only three or four choices for the stock sizes... let's just hope they continue making these choices for a while. I bought the Michelins because of Michelin's reputation and the fact these same tires are on some new C8s. They can't be all bad, even if they aren't the most aggressive things out there.

Thanks for all the comments. I’m hoping the Michelins have a stiffer sidewall. My car also sits a lot and I agree the Nittos flat spot. I also find they are slow to react to a quick steering input. Hoping for improvement there also.

I ended up with Toyo Extenza in stock sizes last year. Work fine
