Default What is this plastic piece, and do I need it?

It won't stay in place anymore and is becoming a pain. I snap it into place, but within a few days, it is sticking out of the gap between the hood and the fender.

Looks like its purpose is to protect a cable that is running along that channel, but I'm not sure that anything would touch that cable if the plastic piece is not there.

Thoughts and/or suggestions?

In place (I think)

The cable it covers

That is what is called a beautification trim piece to hide the gap and cable below it. That cable is the hood latch release on the Drinker's side.

I had the same issue and as I recall, I just used some 3M double sided body molding tape or similar to try to keep it in place.

Derek would be proud!
Yeah, that piece is to make it look a little nicer under the power barn.

I think it acts as somewhat of a rain channel too?

Also covers the access hole for the headlight adjustment screw.

Mine always pokes between the hood and fender even after putting it under the lip of the fender. Thanks for the tip about tape.

Try putting the cable on top of the trim piece from the hole back.

^^ This is correct. The cable is supposed to be on top the panel from the slot / hole back. The panel is likely not sitting in place correctly with the cable incorrectly placed under it, and that is the cause of it not staying put.

Sounds like you may have a broken clip.
I have the same issue. I glued the clip back in place and mine works fine now.
just be easy with it if you have to remove it.
