The problem is the study focused on undergrads....there is so much bias in that group I wouldn't even know where to start

Not just undergrads, only undergrads studying for a business degree. Sample is totally invalid to draw an general conclusions.

“That’s the psychopathy coming out and it’s also they probably get a kick out of enjoying watching people get startled.” That part makes sense. The C8 engineers might be slightly sadistic because at start-up I keep the garage door closed to muffle the bark. But there's something to be said about upping the volume reasonably enough to stir your own soul without encroaching on others...

If the stock exhaust sounds like a sedate family sedan, then it's justifiable to chase a more exciting tone. Ideally one that asserts your machine's mechanical presence, honest and true. Many fall into the trap of starting with an obnoxious shouty exhaust, but through trial and error they hone their tastes over time. To me, NPP is satisfactorily honed (could be louder but the tone is perfect).

I also think loudness is one thing, but tone is another. An F1 tone is less obnoxious than a loud *** raspy fart can or crackle tune, even though the F1 sound is much, much louder. Because the F1 sound is more honest and true. Moderately loud but bad sounding is more fucked up in the head than rip roaringly loud and glorious sounding.

Personally, I think if it startles people who are trying to go about their lives, and you enjoy that... it's an issue.

Undergrad business students... they oversampled the highly rational... would love to see the results from a wide population sample!!!

More woke propaganda by our Marxist university system. Don’t trust anyone under 40. They are probably F’d up.

Kind of interesting, deserves a bigger look with a wider sample size.

I've for sure ran into a lot of people that seem to enjoy the effect of their exhausts on others more than simply enjoying it for themselves.

I find it silly, as with much useless research there is always bias. Why not look for what car buyers like about hearing loud pipes and the visceral feelings they promote?

Exactly.

Business undergrads only? Completely useless bogus "study".

This is dumb. Lots of young guys have loud cars in their youth and as they get older they gravitate away from them. Does that mean they were cured? Then there are also a lot of car guys that always loved the rumble of a good sounding exhaust and searched out the best sound. Not necessarily the loudest, but certainly louder than stock. Seems odd they could be sadistic or psychopathic all their lives yet never do anything sadistic or psychopathic. 529 students would hardly be a valid sample. Perhaps the common denominator is business undergrads at Western University in London, Ontario are sadists and psychopaths.

Not an exhaustive study but after reading I was exhausted.

TLDR....

I always have and always will LOVE obnoxious exhaust, guess.....

One could conclude that the people that they "studied" probably all drive EVs, have Skittle colored hair, and fall into a certain 2% demographic....

"Not an exhaustive study but after reading I was exhausted." Wouldn't have been half as good a response had the cited study been about wheels, or color, or some other gobble-de-gook.
