2024 Infotainment
I know it's been posted before, but holy crap is the new system bad! My "free trial" is over and so many basic features are mysteriously gone or locked now.
I just found out you can long hold the talk button to still make calls, but the system won't read text messages out loud or do basic navigation. Constantly getting advertising pop-ups. It's BRUTAL!
I will NEVER pay a subscription to use basic features. This really spoils an otherwise great car.

Are you using Android Auto or CarPlay? Regardless of vehicle I don't care about OEM infotainment as long as AA or CarPlay functions without a hiccup.

If you use AndroidAuto/CarPlay, a lot of that is bypassed (although you will still get some popups). Alternatively, you can buy (including redeeming points) the "Unlimited Data" Onstar plan and everything should be functional. I do agree that it's a step back in many ways from the 2020-2023 infotainment.

I have heard you can get features back by hotspotting your phone, and let the system connect to the internet through your phone.

Which may be changing... at least for CarPlay. Looks like this 2024 change is a small step to eventually and completely drop support. Huge issue to me.

They haven't given any indication they're going to kill it on ICE powered vehicles.

All GM has said is they're not going to support it on their EVs, because Android Automotive (not to be confused with Android Auto), integrates with all the electrical infastructure, can track actual charge state and range, and knows the distance to charging stations. Android Auto and CarPlay can't do that. And Apple's CarPlay2, which in theory will do that, is years behind Android Automotive and it's original roll out plans.

I'm really hoping you're correct. Thanks for the clarification, appreciate it.

I can't believe GM is ramming this crap down my throat after buying a $150,000+ Z06! I wish I had the system in our C8 HTC back. Too bad it's not at all practical to retrofit the old system....
